While we were quite upset that Apple didn’t announce its next M2 chipset but launched M1 Ultra at its Peak Performance event, however, the good thing is the M2 chipset is on its way but will be coming later this year. Now, as reported by Digitimes, Apple plans to launch a series of Macs with a new M2 chipset based on TSMC’s 4nm process.
This chip could further enhance the performance, more importantly on graphics, and thanks to a more efficient 4nm process you can guess for good power efficiency improvements on upcoming Macs using this chip.
So, as per the report, “TSMC’s 4nm process will also build Apple’s M2 chip that will power the new Mac series slated for launch in the second half of this year.”
On the other hand, the ever-reliable Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has tweeted that the new M2 powered Mac mini, MacBook Pro 13-inch and 24-inch iMacs are still in development. While Gurman said that Apple plans to launch at least some of those Macs in around May-June while Digitimes also states Apple has an intended launch in the second half of this year.
However, the often-accurate analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has reported on Tuesday that a 2022 version of the MacBook Air will sport an M1 chipset but will sport a brand new design, with more color options while the mass production of the MacBook Air will begin in Q2 or Q3 of 2022. With time, more leaks or rumours will give an estimated timeline for the launch of M2 and which devices will actually come bearing this chipset.
