The Truth About Vince’s Arrangement

When Sharon discovered discrepancies in Walter’s care facility bills, she initially believed Vince was skimming money. The truth proved far more protective and heartbreaking. Vince believed Sharon had attempted suicide after Riley’s funeral when her motorcycle crashed, and he knew Ruby could push all her buttons. Fearing Ruby’s toxic influence would destroy his wife’s fragile mental state, Vince made the difficult choice to pay her to stay away.

Sharon revealed during her conversation with Walter that Ruby had insinuated she would still have both her children if she’d been a better mother. This cruel manipulation was exactly what Vince feared would unravel Sharon during her darkest moments. Walter reassured Sharon that her motorcycle accident wasn’t a suicide attempt—she was simply driving too fast while processing her grief.

Walter’s Devastating Confession About Vince’s Death

The episode delivered another crushing revelation about the night Vince died in the Zabel Ridge fire. Walter confessed he saw Vince through the debris after the ceiling collapsed and knew he was already gone. This explains why Walter pushed Sharon away so forcefully that night—he was protecting her from seeing her husband’s body and ensuring she survived.

This confession finally freed Sharon from the guilt of not being able to save Vince. She could now accept that no one could have saved him, as he had already passed before they evacuated.

Ruby’s Unwelcome Arrival

After learning the truth, Sharon left Ruby a firm voicemail explaining that the payments would stop and demanding she continue staying away. However, Ruby completely ignored this request. One week after Sharon’s voicemail, Ruby appeared at her doorstep announcing “momma’s here,” much to Sharon’s visible frustration.

The arrival of Ruby, played by Oscar-winner Christine Lahti, sets up significant drama for upcoming episodes. The next episode, titled “Best Mom in the World,” will likely explore their toxic mother-daughter dynamic and Ruby’s manipulative behavior.

This storyline adds another layer of family crisis as Sharon must now worry about her son’s reckless behavior while dealing with her toxic mother’s return.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why was Vince paying Sharon’s mother Ruby to stay away?

Vince paid Ruby to stay away because he believed Sharon had a death wish after their daughter Riley’s funeral and feared Ruby’s toxic manipulation would push Sharon over the edge. After Sharon’s motorcycle accident, which Vince interpreted as a suicide attempt, he made the arrangement to protect his wife’s mental health. Ruby had cruelly suggested that Sharon’s parenting was responsible for Riley’s death, and Vince knew such comments could destroy Sharon’s fragile emotional state.

Did Sharon really try to end her life after Riley’s death?

No, Sharon did not attempt suicide. Walter clarified during their conversation that Sharon was simply driving too fast while processing her grief when her motorcycle flipped. The accident was not a deliberate attempt to harm herself, despite what Vince believed. This misconception drove Vince to make the secret financial arrangement with Ruby, as he desperately wanted to protect Sharon from further emotional harm during her darkest period.
