With the league running from November 30, 2024, to June 29, 2025, India has a lot to prove and gain, especially after a challenging 2023-2024 campaign.

Let’s have a look into more details: FIH Pro League 2024-2025

In the previous FIH Pro League season, India struggled, finishing 8th out of 9 teams. Despite this, they avoided relegation and secured a valuable learning experience. Under head coach Harendra Singh’s leadership, the team is now more focused on building a strong foundation for the future, including long term goals like the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Coach Singh emphasizes the importance of fitness, skill development, and the use of technology in training. His “SST” (Science, Skill, and Technology) approach is designed to make the team faster, more dynamic, and competitive at the highest levels.

Key Players to Watch

India will be relying on experienced players like captain Salima Tete, goalkeeper Savita Punia, and forward Sharmila Devi to guide the team through tough matchups. These key players, along with emerging talents, will be instrumental in taking India to the next level in the Pro League and beyond.

Exciting Fixtures and Venues

India will begin their campaign on home soil, with matches scheduled in Bhubaneswar starting on February 15, 2025. This home advantage could play a significant role in boosting the team’s morale and performance.

• February 21-22, 2025: India vs Germany
• June 14-22, 2025: Matches in Great Britain

This season presents an incredible opportunity for India to grow, especially with the added motivation that the winner of the FIH Pro League will secure direct qualification for the 2026 FIH World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands. Although the Indian women’s team faces stiff competition, they have the potential to rise through the ranks if they can execute their strategies effectively.

Challenges Ahead

India’s 2024-2025 Pro League journey won’t be easy, especially considering the formidable teams they will face. Argentina, the reigning bronze medallist, Belgium, and England will all test India’s mettle. The team will need to put in consistent performances and avoid the pitfalls of the previous season, where they managed only two wins from 16 games.

The team will also have to balance between gaining experience and striving for results, especially with young players getting more playing time to prepare for future major tournaments like the 2028 Olympics.

The Pro League is an important stepping stone for the Indian women’s hockey team, not just for immediate success but also for long-term development. The experience gained in this high-stakes competition will help build a stronger, more cohesive unit ready to take on the world’s best in future tournaments.

As the FIH Pro League 2024-2025 season unfolds, India will aim to surprise their opponents, improve their standings, and set the stage for a bright future in international women’s hockey. With the right blend of youth and experience, and a solid strategy in place, fans can expect a competitive and inspiring performance from the Indian women’s hockey team.
