FIFA World Cup Final – France vs Argentina: Thousands of empty seats at Lusail

France vs Argentina went down as one of the greatest World Cup finals to ever be played. The Albiceleste won their third World Cup trophy in Qatar, but there were thousands of empty seats to be found in the stands.

Empty seats were prominent especially once the second half started, when France were 2-0 down. But, they were able to come back down from 2-0 to make it 2-2 by the time the final whistle blew.

FIFA World Cup 2022 – empty seats at France vs Argentina

The FIFA World Cup final has largely been considered the most highly anticipated, and most watched sporting fixture every four years. And no doubt, fans were tuning in from all parts of the world to see the two countries battle it out for the top prize in international football.

But Qatar’s ability to provide a capacity crowd for the sporting spectacle has seriously come under question. Even as the game reached a gripping conclusion, all the way till the penalty shootout, the 88,966-capacity Lusail Stadium had unmanned seats throughout.

This isn’t the case for the final alone, with matches from all over the tournament experiencing a lack of capacity audience in attendance. And as a result, Qatar’s passion for the sport has come under question.
