Everton confirm Rafa Benitez as the new head coach

Rafa Benitez has officially been confirmed as the new Everton manager, and he becomes the first person since William Edward Barclay in the 1890s to manage both Liverpool and Everton. The Spaniard has signed a three-year deal with the Toffees, amidst a lot of backlash from fans.

“It is a privilege to have been given the opportunity to manage Everton. Having called Merseyside my home for the last 17 years, I have a very clear understanding of what makes this club so special.

“This club is always striving to be the best. Simply competing in the top league is not enough. That ambition and determination to succeed is something I share. I never want to just compete – at every club I have managed I have fought to win. My focus is always on one thing – fighting for the team I am managing. And I will do that for Everton.

“The hard work starts now. It is a challenge I am relishing.” said Benitez after being revealed by the club as their new head coach. The higher management has also retained the services of Duncan Ferguson, who will be a part of the coaching staff alongside Benitez.

Some sections of Everton fans have been very vocal about their disapproval of majority stakeholder Farhad Moshiri’s decision to appoint the former Liverpool manager at Everton. However, discarding the rivalry and focusing on his spells at various big clubs across Europe, he is a great appointment for the club and is one of the best managers to take them forward.
