The Esports World Cup (EWC) 2026 officially commenced its first international edition in Paris today, bringing together over 2,000 elite players and 200 clubs from more than 100 countries. The seven-week competition, organized by the Riyadh-based Esports Foundation, is set to distribute a record-breaking $75 million (~INR 716 crore) prize pool across 25 tournaments featuring 24 popular game titles.

The event, hosted at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles until August 23, follows a comprehensive qualification program, “Road to EWC,” which saw over 1.5 million players participate in 330 globally-hosted events. This scale underscores the EWC’s ambition to establish a definitive annual competition for the global esports community.

Esports World Cup: Global Presence and Prize Structure

The 2026 edition marks a significant expansion for the Esports World Cup (https://esportsworldcup.com/en), moving beyond its origins in Saudi Arabia to a major international city. Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire provided opening remarks at a press conference at the Hôtel de Ville, welcoming the esports community and acknowledging the sport’s growing integration into contemporary culture.

Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation, highlighted the event’s unique Club Championship format. “For seven weeks in Paris, every title crowns its own winner, but every result also contributes to a bigger race: the Club Championship,” Reichert stated. “That is what makes EWC different. It rewards not only individual brilliance, but the depth, consistency and ambition of an entire Club.”

French Minister of Sports, Youth, and Community Life, Marina Ferrari, expressed pride in hosting the international edition, emphasizing France’s capacity to organize major global competitions and its long-term vision for esports development.
