Donny van de Beek is set to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. The midfielder has failed to break into the starting line-up regularly since his arrival from Ajax in 2020. There was optimism that he could regain his spot with the arrival of Erik Ten Hag, who also managed him when he was at Ajax.

But, the 26-year-old has remained on the bench, with Scott McTominay, Sofyan Amrabat, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount all preferred over him. He was loaned out to Everton for six months last January, but even that failed to revive his career. And now, he seems certain to move on in January to get regular playing time somewhere else.

Eintracht Frankfurt have made an inquiry to sign the midfielder on loan in January alongside LaLiga table toppers Girona. Frankfurt are currently leading the race to sign the Dutch player, while Girona are offering different conditions to get the player on loan.

Donny Van de Beek’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2025, and a permanent transfer will surely follow in the summer if he leaves on a temporary spell now.

The decision is up to the player to choose his next destination, having only played 21 minutes across two games this season.
