Edin Dzeko Fenerbahce transfer official until 2025: What will he bring to the team?

Edin Dzeko Fenerbahce transfer confirmed: Edin Dzeko has joined Turkish club Fenerbahce after leaving Inter Milan. His arrival has been officially announced by the club, and he has signed a two year contract until 2025.

The Bosnian led Inter to the Champions League final this past season, but ended up falling short against Manchester City. However, he helped them win the Coppa Italia and the Supercopa Italia, securing a domestic cup double in the process. Dzeko spent two years with Inter Milan, and has now left the European top flight to pursue a new challenge in what seems to be the final phase of his career.

The forward will receive a hefty signing on bonus due to his free agent status. Moreover, he has agreed a contract worth £3.4 million plus add-ons to sign for the Turkish club.

The Bosnian has played for some of the top clubs in Europe including Manchester City, for whom he featured between 2011 and 2015. He made 189 appearances for the Sky Blues during his time with them, scoring 72 goals and providing 38 assists.

However, his best spell arguably came with Roma between 2015 and 2021. Edin Dzeko scored 119 goals and provided 54 assists for the Giallorossi in 260 appearances while finishing as the top scorer in Serie A in 2016/17 with 29 goals.

With Inter, he has had a trophy-laden spell, winning the Coppa Italia and Supercopa consecutively in his two seasons with the club. The veteran has played 101 games for the Nerazzurri, scoring 31 goals and providing 15 assists. Of them, 14 came this season from 52 appearances.

As a result, the Bosnia and Herzegovina captain still has a lot left in the tank in spite of his age. And he can still prove to be a game changing signing for Fenerbahce, who have not won the league title in nine years.

Edin Dzeko Fenerbahce transfer: How will Inter replace him?

The striker was offered a contract renewal by Inter, but he turned it down as he wanted to explore a new challenge. With Fenerbahce, he will be playing the Europa Conference League qualifiers in hopes of landing a group stage spot.

Inter, on the other hand, will need a new strike partner for Lautaro Martinez. Romelu Lukaku’s future remains uncertain given he will be returning to Chelsea upon the expiry of his loan spell. The Belgian has received offers from Saudi Arabia, but has turned them down in favour of a return to Inter.

There have been some crazy reports suggesting that AC Milan are interested in signing Lukaku since Inter cannot meet Chelsea’s €40 million asking price for a permanent deal. However, there is a possibility of the player signing for their local rivals, as it has been done in the past by many players.

Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun has been rumoured as a potential option, with the player seeking a permanent destination. But so far, there have been no concrete options put forth to replace Edin Dzeko.
