A Yuletide Adventure Like No Other

It’s Christmas in June! Amazon MGM Studios has officially released the trailer for “Red One,” a thrilling yuletide action-adventure movie.

The film stars Dwayne Johnson, Chris Evans, and J.K. Simmons as a very unconventional Santa Claus. Directed by Jake Kasdan, known for the “Jumanji” reboots, and written by Chris Morgan of “Fast & Furious” fame, this holiday feature promises a unique twist on the classic Christmas narrative.

How old is J.K. Simmos?

The High-Stakes Plot

In “Red One,” J.K. Simmons plays Santa Claus, who goes by the code name “Red One.” When Santa is kidnapped, the North Pole’s Head of Security, portrayed by Dwayne Johnson, must collaborate with the world’s most notorious bounty hunter, played by Chris Evans, to rescue him.

Their mission spans the globe in an action-packed race against time to save Christmas. This duo’s dynamic promises plenty of thrills and a hefty dose of holiday spirit.

Star-Studded Cast of Red One

The movie boasts an impressive cast lineup beyond the main trio. Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, and Wesley Kimmel bring additional star power to this festive film. Each actor adds their unique charm, making “Red One” a must-watch this holiday season.

Red One Trailer Highlights

The trailer opens with a bang, showcasing Dwayne Johnson’s character turning a simple Hot Wheels car into a full-sized Chevy Corvette using advanced Christmas technology.

The scene captures the film’s blend of humor and action perfectly, with Evans’ character quipping, “You don’t have a Wonder Woman action figure, do you?” as they leave the toy store. Johnson’s quick retort, “Not how it works, come on!” sets the tone for their playful yet intense partnership.

Unveiling the Poster

Adding to the excitement, Johnson revealed the official “Red One” poster, which mimics a wanted poster for Santa Claus.

Accompanying the poster, Johnson’s message reads, “All points alert to everyone around the world—be on the lookout for this man. Last seen at the North Pole. If you have any information, please reach out to the E.L.F. North Pole Command Center via the number on the bottom of this official ‘Red One’ poster. WE NEED YOUR HELP. Christmas depends on it. And Nick, buddy, if you’re reading this—I will find you. ~ Callum Drift, Commander of The E.L.F.”

Behind-the-Scenes Challenges

Despite the festive cheer, “Red One” faced significant production challenges. Reports emerged in April 2024 that Johnson was frequently late or absent from the set, causing the budget to balloon to $250 million. However, spokespeople for Johnson, Seven Bucks Productions, and Amazon MGM disputed these claims, emphasizing their strong partnership and the film’s positive test screenings.

Aiming for Redemption

Both Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans have faced recent setbacks with their action movie endeavors. Johnson’s “Red Notice” and Evans’ “The Gray Man” received mixed critical reviews, despite their popularity on streaming platforms.

“Red One” represents an opportunity for both actors to reclaim their status as box office champions. Their previous collaboration on the “Jumanji” series was a massive success, raising hopes that “Red One” will follow suit.

Competing in a Crowded Marketplace

“Red One” will hit theaters with strong competition, releasing the same weekend as “Gladiator II” and just two weeks before Johnson’s “Moana 2.” Despite the crowded release schedule, the shift from a streaming-only release to a theatrical one indicates Amazon MGM’s confidence in the film’s potential.

“Red One” is set to be a holiday blockbuster with its unique blend of action, adventure, and Christmas magic. With a stellar cast, a compelling plot, and the promise of high-octane thrills, this film is poised to become a new Christmas classic. As the holiday season approaches, audiences can look forward to an exhilarating ride that redefines the boundaries of festive storytelling.
