In a groundbreaking initiative to promote urban sustainability, the Dharampal Satyapal Group (DS Group), a leading FMCG conglomerate, has teamed up with Liquid Trees, an innovative climate tech startup, to unveil India’s first outdoor Liquid Tree. This remarkable installation at the DS Headquarters in Noida marks a significant step in the battle against climate change and urban air pollution, showcasing the potential of technology to enhance our environment.

DS Group and Liquid Trees Launch India’s First Outdoor Liquid Tree: A Leap Towards Urban Sustainability

🌱 What is a Liquid Tree?

The Liquid Tree is an urban photo-bioreactor that utilizes microalgae to capture carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. This unique cubical structure contains 1,600 liters of a microalgae solution, effectively sequestering the same amount of CO2 as six mature trees. By merging nature, technology, and art, the Liquid Tree not only serves a practical purpose but also stands as a striking visual representation of our commitment to sustainability.

The Power of Microalgae

Microalgae are photosynthetic microorganisms that grow rapidly and offer a multitude of environmental benefits, including:

Particulate Matter Removal: They help filter out harmful particles from the air.
Carbon Dioxide Sequestration: Microalgae absorb CO2, helping to mitigate climate change.
Oxygen Production: They release oxygen as a byproduct of photosynthesis, contributing to cleaner air.

Unlike traditional trees, which can take years to mature, microalgae can be deployed in just a few weeks, making them an ideal solution for urban areas grappling with pollution. Furthermore, the harvested microalgae can support a circular economy by serving as nutrient-rich feed for local flora.

🌍 A Symbol of Environmental Action

Beyond its functional benefits, the Liquid Tree serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for environmental action. It encourages communities to engage with and implement green solutions in their neighborhoods, fostering a culture of sustainability.

Voices of Commitment

Mr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairman of DS Group, expressed the significance of this installation, stating, “The Liquid Tree represents our commitment to environmental sustainability. We face the dual challenges of climate change and air quality, making it increasingly urgent for society to embrace innovative solutions that harness nature’s capabilities. This installation not only serves as a functional element in our fight against pollution but also symbolizes our potential to adapt and innovate in the face of climate change. At the DS Group, we are dedicated to supporting initiatives that contribute to a healthier Bharat for current and future generations.”

Abhinav Palaparthy, spokesperson and head of Liquid Trees India, added, “Trees are incredible, and we aim to educate the world about the original ‘trees’—microalgae, the lifeforms that pioneered oxygen production on Earth. The installation at the DS HQ is the first in India and reaffirms our position as a global leader in green and sustainable building practices. We are excited to partner with DS Group, a company that shares our commitment to sustainable practices and a greener future.”
