Dragon Age fans, rejoice! BioWare has finally lifted the curtain on Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the highly anticipated fourth installment in the beloved RPG franchise. It brings a treasure trove of information, including the first 15-minute gameplay video, a detailed fact sheet, and confirmation of features that will have players itching to dive into Thedas this Fall.

Solas’ Dreadful Plan Backfires

For those who completed Dragon Age: Inquisition and its DLCs, the identity of Solas, the Inquisitor’s enigmatic companion, won’t come as a surprise. Solas, it turns out, is none other than the Dread Wolf, an ancient Elven trickster god harboring a dangerous agenda.

His ultimate goal? To tear down the Veil, the barrier separating the world of Thedas from the demon-infested Fade, and restore the lost Elven empire in all its glory. However, as with many grand plans, things go awry.

Thanks to the intervention of the player character, Rook, Solas’ ritual backfires spectacularly, unleashing two of his most formidable foes – powerful Elven gods with their sights set on wreaking havoc upon Thedas.

A Sprawling Thedas Awaits

Thedas has never been more vast and explorable. Dragon Age: The Veilguard promises to take players on a journey across a wider swathe of the continent than ever before. Lore enthusiasts will be thrilled to visit iconic locations like the Rivain peninsula, the Grey Warden fortress of Weisshaupt, the elven forest of Arlathan, the Tevinter capital of Minrathous, and the treacherous Deep Roads.

Bioware promises a diverse range of biomes, from bustling cities and lush tropics to forbidding swamps, boreal forests, and the darkest dungeons imaginable.

The Rise of the Veilguard

The heroes who will rise to the challenge of confronting these godly threats are known as the Veilguard. They gather at the Lighthouse, a familiar haven for weary adventurers where players can rest, strategize, and forge bonds with their companions.

Speaking of companions, BioWare assures us that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will deliver some of the most compelling companion storylines in the series’ history.

A cast of seven unique characters, including the returning scout Harding, a Grey Warden named Davrin, the enigmatic necromancer Emmrich, and a dragon-hunting specialist named Taash, will provide rich and dynamic narratives that explore themes of love, loss, and the profound impact of player choices. Each companion boasts a distinct skill tree and specialized gear, making them invaluable assets in combat.

Unprecedented Character Creation

Dragon Age: The Veilguard takes character customization to a whole new level. Players can create their ideal hero, Rook, with the most powerful character creator ever seen in the franchise.

A vast array of options allows for personalized appearance, race selection (including elves and Qunari!), and a choice of starting faction that influences Rook’s backstory. These factions range from the legendary Grey Wardens to the mysterious Shadow Dragons and the cunning Antivan Crows.

Combat and Progression

For those who crave tactical combat, Dragon Age: The Veilguard offers a refined skill tree system for Warriors, Mages, and Rogues, allowing players to tailor their playstyle to their liking. While direct control over all party members won’t be possible, a revamped ability wheel grants the power to unleash specific companion skills on targeted enemies.

A World of Handcrafted Content in Dragon Age: The Veilguard

One of the most exciting revelations from BioWare’s Summer Game Fest presentation was the confirmation of a “tremendous amount of side content” in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. This content will be entirely handcrafted, ensuring a deeply immersive and rewarding experience for players who choose to venture off the beaten path.
