Doctor Doom’s First Official Tony Stark Link Just Got Revealed — And It’s Hiding in a Hammer Sound

Robert Downey Jr. is back in the MCU, but this time he’s not building an arc reactor — he’s forging a mask of a different kind. And Marvel just gave us the first real clue connecting Tony Stark to Doctor Doom, hidden in plain sound.

Doctor Doom: The Hammer That Started It All

In Avengers: Endgame‘s original post-credits scene, fans heard the faint clang of a hammer — a callback to Tony Stark hand-forging his first Iron Man helmet in 2008’s Iron Man. In the new Avengers: Endgame Encore re-release, that same hammer sound now plays over fresh footage of Doctor Doom forging his iconic steel mask, tying Stark’s origin visually and audibly to Doom’s.

It’s Marvel’s subtlest — and most symbolic — hint yet that these two Downey Jr. characters share more than a face.

Why This Matters for Avengers: Doomsday?

With Avengers: Doomsday landing in theaters December 18, 2026, this connection raises a big question: how will Earth-616’s Avengers react to a villain wearing their late friend’s face? As we covered when RDJ’s casting as Doctor Doom first broke at Comic-Con, fans have speculated about this link for over a year — and it looks like the Russo Brothers are finally paying it off. Doctor Doom himself, per Wikipedia, was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby as a genius ruler of Latveria — a legacy this MCU version seems ready to honor.
