Disney’s Live-Action Snow White Trailer Released: What to Expect

Disney has just released the trailer for its upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White, hitting theaters on March 21, 2025. Directed by Marc Webb, known for The Amazing Spider-Man, the film reimagines the beloved 1937 animated classic with a new musical twist. It also benefitted from the know-how of Wicked producers Marc Platt and Jared LeBoff, with a script penned by Barbie writer Greta Gerwig with Erin Cressida Wilson.

Disney’s Live-Action Snow White Trailer Unveils New Cast, Twist, and Musical Touches

Starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot

The trailer shows off Rachel Zegler as the titular Snow White, along with Gal Gadot in the iconic role of the Evil Queen. This live-action version presents a more empowered Snow White, breaking from the traditionally demure character seen in the animated classic. The trailer hints at Snow White’s journey to reclaim her kingdom, setting the stage for an exciting clash between her and the Evil Queen, whose obsession with being the “fairest of them all” drives her thirst for power.

Musical Twist with Original Songs

One of the standout features of this remake is its music. Composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, winners of an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony), have crafted original songs for the film, adding a fresh element to the narrative. The musical fantasy also stars Andrew Burnap as Jonathan, Ansu Kabia as the Huntsman, and Martin Klebba as Grumpy, along with other cast members.

A Visually Stunning Reimagining

The film looks to be going for a big visual spectacle with the seven dwarfs shown in CGI. Sure, that decision in itself has drawn some controversy; but it falls in line with Disney’s new way of updating their animated classics — with the help of sophisticated modern technology. The trailer is promising a visually lush fantasy world brought into reality on screen, brimming with colorful scenery and epic set-pieces; all of which belie the darker, grittier tones hinted at underneath Snow White’s journey.

Reaction to the Trailer

Although many fans are excited to see a modern version of the classic, the Snow White trailer has not been well-received on social media. Although its viewership was high — 2.44 million views anytime the report broke; it only got 12,000 YouTube likes, which is an obvious indication of some audience disappointment and fatigue to boot from Khan stans and naysayers alike. The internet has expressed both excitement for the new adaptation and skepticism over Disney’s approach to retelling familiar stories.

Looking Ahead: A New Chapter

Despite the mixed reactions, Disney’s Snow White offers a unique opportunity to reimagine a classic fairy tale with contemporary themes and visuals. Whether the film will meet audience expectations remains to be seen, but it certainly sets the stage for a reworked version of a beloved story.
