Bollywood has never seen anything like this. Dhurandhar: The Revenge didn’t just break the paid preview record — it shattered it so completely that the previous record-holder looks like a footnote. Ranveer Singh’s return as Hamza Ali has rewritten Indian cinema history before the film even officially opened.
Dhurandhar: The Revenge- Top Bollywood Paid Preview Records
| Film | Paid Preview Collections |
|---|---|
| Dhurandhar: The Revenge | ~₹39–40 crore nett (NEW RECORD) |
| Stree 2 | ₹8.75 crore |
| They Call Him OG (Pan-India) | ₹26 crore |
| Chennai Express | ₹6.75 crore |
| Padmaavat | ₹4 crore |
| 3 Idiots | ₹2.75 crore |
What Just Happened at the Box Office?
The numbers are almost surreal. Dhurandhar: The Revenge stormed past ₹39 crore nett in domestic paid premieres alone — nearly 4.5 times the previous Bollywood preview record set by Stree 2 (₹8.75 crore). It also smashed the pan-India preview record previously held by the Telugu blockbuster They Call Him OG at ₹26 crore — by a massive margin.
The figure could have been even higher, but partial cancellations in some markets due to technical issues — as reported separately regarding Hindi premiere cancellations and refunds for Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada shows — trimmed the final number slightly. Even so, what remains is a figure that no Bollywood film has come close to in history.
There’s also a compelling historical pattern at play. Every Bollywood film that has previously held the paid preview record — Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Chennai Express, and Stree 2 — has gone on to become an all-time blockbuster at the box office. Dhurandhar: The Revenge now owns that bellwether record by a country mile, and it enters Day 1 with an enormous tailwind.
The preview record milestone also signals a likely shift in how the industry approaches releases going forward. Paid previews had faded as a practice over the years — largely because industry reporting was focused on pure Day 1 numbers. With pan-India box office accounting now folding previews into opening day figures, expect more big-ticket releases to actively pursue preview business.
Dhurandhar (film) — the original — was itself a landmark Bollywood spy thriller directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh. The sequel carries the full weight of those expectations and then some.
