There’s something about a well-crafted character introduction poster that builds real anticipation — and the team behind Dhanush’s upcoming action thriller Kara just delivered exactly that. The first look of Mamitha Baiju as Selli is out, and it’s unlike anything fans have seen from the actress before.
Mamitha Baiju’s Bold New Avatar in Kara
The makers of Kara have unveiled Mamitha Baiju’s first look as her character Selli. In contrast to her previous films, the poster presents her in a more rooted avatar, moving away from a glamorous persona and aligning with the film’s rustic tone. Movie Insider
It’s a deliberate creative choice — and it works. Mamitha, best known for her bubbly and charming screen presence, looks completely transformed here. Gritty, grounded, and deeply compelling.

What Is Kara About?
In the film’s title glimpse, Dhanush’s character is shown as a man who locks horns with the wrong people because of his profession. As he finds himself being hunted, he realizes the only way out is to face the consequences of his past actions. Caught between sin and virtue, he must protect his family against all odds in a one-man battle before he loses everything he holds dear — ultimately revealed as Karasami, also known as Kara.
The premise is exactly the kind of intense, layered storytelling that Tamil action cinema has been known for — personal, high-stakes, and rooted in raw human emotion rather than just spectacle.
The film also features a powerful ensemble cast including KS Ravikumar, Karunas, Jayaram, Prithvi Pandiarajan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, MS Baskar, and Sreeja Ravi, among others.
What’s Next for Dhanush and Mamitha?
After Kara, Dhanush will star in the tentatively titled D55, directed by Rajkumar Periasamy — a spy action thriller featuring Mammootty, Sreeleela, and Sai Pallavi. Meanwhile, Mamitha Baiju will next appear alongside Suriya in Vishwanath and Sons, releasing in July 2026. Movie Insider
