As seen in recent extended gameplay footage, Dambuster Studios’ long-awaited zombie action RPG Dead Island 2 will feature an intriguing system that will allow players to unleash their own mutation powers. With the success of Endnight’s Sons of the Forest in the indie scene and the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake in the AAA sphere, it’s an exciting time to be a fan of horror games.
With the official extended gameplay revealed, we can take a closer look at Dead Island 2’s gameplay aspects and elements
Those who have been anticipating the sequel to 2011’s Dead Island were no doubt ecstatic to learn that the game’s release date had been pushed forward to April 21. While the first game in the series was not as well-received as many had hoped, the upcoming second installment is one that many fans have been anticipating for years, with this installment aiming for a more humorous tone, as evidenced by the trailers.
The gameplay video provides a good overview of the game as it currently stands, displaying the world and action. The ability to mutate, on the other hand, is the most intriguing feature. Dani, one of six possible playable characters, is shown in the footage using her “corrupted DNA” to become ever more powerful, unleashing “explosive abilities” that actually mimic the power of the undead. It appears to be adding something new to the combat system. However, the narrator does state that this feature will not be available in the game’s early stages.
The FLESH system from Dead Island 2 is also demonstrated in the video. This is a gruesome procedural feature that gives players a taste of bloodlust as they hack and slash at zombies, killing them in the most gory ways possible. Overall, the extended gameplay is enticing, providing a taste of what’s to come.
Dead Island 2 launches on April 28 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
