Director-turned-actor. That’s the headline here. Lokesh Kanagaraj, the mastermind behind Kaithi, Vikram, and Coolie, is now standing in front of the camera for the first time — and the trailer for DC suggests he’s not easing into acting, he’s diving headfirst into chaos.

What the DC Trailer Shows?

Clocking in at 2 minutes 32 seconds, the DC trailer drops viewers straight into a gritty, violent world built around a clash between the law and extremist forces. At its centre are Devadas (Deva) and Chandra, two characters bound not by romance but by a shared, dangerous madness — each chasing revenge for a life that was taken from them. True to director Arun Matheswaran’s signature style, expect brutal action, raw emotion, and a narrative that doesn’t hold back.

A Filmmaker Steps In Front of the Camera

Lokesh Kanagaraj has spent years building one of Tamil cinema’s most consistent hit streaks as a director. With DC, he trades the megaphone for the spotlight, marking his full acting debut opposite Wamiqa Gabbi, who also makes her Tamil (Kollywood) debut with this project. It’s a rare double debut that’s already got the industry talking.

The Man Behind the Camera This Time

Arun Matheswaran, known for his visually intense and emotionally raw storytelling, directs DC and also wrote its dialogues. Reports suggest the film blends romance, action, and psychological drama on a bigger canvas than his earlier work — and the trailer’s tone backs that up, leaning hard into chaos and moral grey areas.

The Sound of Revenge

Anirudh Ravichander, a frequent Lokesh Kanagaraj collaborator, composed the film’s music and background score, including a 15-track album unveiled at a big promotional event called “DC Rave.” Early buzz around the soundtrack has been strong, with the trailer’s background score already drawing praise for amplifying its intensity.

Why It Matters

DC isn’t just another action drama — it’s a experiment in reinvention. A celebrated director trying his hand at acting, a Bollywood actress crossing over to Tamil cinema, and one of India’s most in-demand composers backing it all. With its August 7, 2026 release now locked in (after shifting to make way for Jana Nayagan), DC is shaping up to be one of the more unpredictable, buzzworthy releases of the year.

The Bottom Line

Whether Lokesh Kanagaraj can match his own directorial legacy as a leading man remains to be seen, but the trailer makes one thing clear: DC isn’t playing it safe. Expect madness, mayhem, and a whole lot of Anirudh’s music driving it forward.
