CWG 2026 Day 8: Neeraj Chopra Roars Into the Javelin Final

The Golden Boy is back — and Glasgow just got a lot more electric. Eight years after his last Commonwealth Games appearance, Neeraj Chopra took to the field on Day 8 of CWG 2026, and India’s medal charge showed no signs of slowing down.

CWG : India’s Medal Tally So Far

India has pushed its tally to 15 total medals — three gold, nine silver, and three bronze — continuing a steady climb through the first week of competition.

Neeraj Chopra Books His Final Spot

Neeraj Chopra qualified for the javelin final with a strong second-attempt throw of 79.61m, after starting the qualification round with 76.28m. He returns to the Commonwealth Games after an eight-year gap, going up against rivals including Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem and Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage — a rematch of sorts for the javelin throw event he first conquered on the world stage years ago.

Boxing Delivers a Golden Afternoon

Six Indian boxers — Sakshi Choudhary, Jaismine Lamboria, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal, and Narender Berwal — all won their quarterfinal bouts to reach the semifinals, guaranteeing India medals across the board in a single session.

Athletics Adds More Silver and a Historic First

Murali claimed silver in the men’s long jump with a best effort of 8.09m, while Gulveer Singh won India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 10,000m.

What’s Left on Day 8

Weightlifting finals in the heaviest categories and the start of India’s track cycling campaign round out an action-packed Thursday in Glasgow.
