Crystal Palace have bolstered their attacking options with the signing of 19-year-old midfielder Romain Esse from Championship side Millwall.

The young star, who has already made waves in English football, joins the Premier League side on a five-and-a-half-year deal. While financial details remain undisclosed, reports estimate the transfer fee at a substantial £12 million.

A Rising Star in English Football

Romain Esse’s rise to prominence has been nothing short of remarkable. Born in Lambeth, Esse honed his skills in Millwall’s youth system and made his professional debut at just 17 against Watford in December 2022. Over the past two seasons, the teenager has become a key figure for Millwall, scoring five goals and contributing an assist in the current Championship campaign.

His consistent performances earned him recognition at the international level, where he has represented England’s Under-18s, Under-19s, and Under-20s. Notably, Esse showcased his talent with a stunning solo goal in England’s 4-0 victory over Germany in November.

Crystal Palace’s Ambitious Signing

Esse’s move to Selhurst Park marks a significant step in his career, as he transitions from the Championship to the Premier League. Palace chairman Steve Parish expressed his excitement about the club’s latest acquisition, stating, “Romain is the type of player who gets crowds off their seats – the type of player long associated with South London and Crystal Palace Football Club. Everyone at the club is looking forward to watching him shine on the pitch and fulfil his exciting potential.”

Esse echoed this enthusiasm, sharing his eagerness to join the South London outfit: “I’m very excited to be here. It’s a good project and a good opportunity, so I just can’t wait to get started.”

Key Details of the Transfer

The teenager will wear the No. 21 jersey for Palace and is expected to bring flair and creativity to the squad. Although Esse won’t be eligible to play in this weekend’s clash against West Ham, fans can anticipate his debut in the upcoming fixture against Brentford.

This signing aligns with Palace’s long-standing tradition of nurturing young, dynamic talent. Esse’s attacking prowess, versatility, and ability to perform on big stages make him an exciting prospect for the Eagles.

A Good Move for Crystal Palace

Currently sitting 15th in the Premier League standings, Crystal Palace are looking to strengthen their squad as they navigate the challenges of the season. Esse’s arrival comes at a crucial juncture, adding depth and attacking options to the team.

With a clear focus on development and growth, Esse’s signing reflects Palace’s commitment to investing in players who align with their vision. His performances at Millwall and for England’s youth teams suggest he has the potential to thrive under the guidance of manager Roy Hodgson.

Romain Esse’s move to Crystal Palace is more than just a transfer – it’s a statement of intent from a club eager to embrace young talent and build for the future. As the 19-year-old embarks on this new chapter, fans will be eager to see how his flair and determination translate to Premier League success.
