Breaking the Mold: Nawazuddin’s Portrayal of Costao Fernandes

In the Costao Trailer, Nawazuddin Siddiqui embodies the character of Costao Fernandes, a man driven by honesty and duty. His mission? To dismantle a gold smuggling operation that has taken root deep within the state’s crime-infested corridors.

However, the deeper he delves into the underworld, the clearer it becomes that the rot isn’t limited to gangsters—corruption seeps into the very government institutions meant to protect the people. When he’s falsely accused of murder, Fernandes is forced to go rogue, shifting from lawman to fugitive.

“This isn’t just a fight. It’s a legacy carved in sacrifice.”

ZEE5, while unveiling the Costao Trailer, aptly stated: “The story of a real hero, a Customs Officer who shook an entire crime network. This isn’t just a fight. It’s a legacy carved in sacrifice.”

This emotional line encapsulates the film’s essence—a tribute to an unsung warrior who becomes a symbol of resistance against widespread decay. The trailer captures the fragility of trust, the weight of betrayal, and the power of perseverance.

A War on Two Fronts

As depicted in the Costao Trailer, Fernandes’ journey is a two-pronged battle. On one side stands a well-oiled smuggling syndicate with political protection; on the other lies a collapsing system quick to discard its most loyal soldier. After clashing with the brother of a notorious kingpin, the stakes are raised, and the manhunt begins. With his name tarnished and his safety in jeopardy, Costao is left to fight for more than just justice—his very identity and family’s future hang in the balance.

The trailer expertly teases this complex narrative arc, showing glimpses of high-octane confrontations, tense emotional scenes, and the protagonist’s internal conflict as he chooses between escape and retaliation.

Talented Ensemble and Fresh Direction

Behind this powerful visual experience is debut director Sejal Shah, who brings a grounded, realistic lens to a story about defiance and moral courage. The supporting cast—Priya Bapat, Kishore Kumar G, Gagan Dev Riar, and Hussain Dalal—add depth and texture to a plot where every character plays a crucial role in shaping Fernandes’ fate.

Presented by Bhanushali Studios Limited in collaboration with Bombay Fables Motion Pictures, Costao offers more than dramatic thrills; it reflects the harsh truths about institutional betrayal and the loneliness of whistleblowers.

When Integrity Comes at a Price

The official synopsis further adds weight to the gripping tale introduced in the Costao Trailer: “Set in a world steeped in corruption and ruled by crime, as revealed in the trailer, the film follows Costao—a man whose daring methods and unshakable courage make him both a hero and a thorn in the side of the system. When a deadly clash with the brother of a notorious smuggler sparks a high-stakes manhunt, Costao is thrust into a relentless battle for survival. Hunted, betrayed, and on his own, he refuses to give in.“

“He fights—not just for justice, but for his family and his own redemption. As everything begins to unravel, one question remains: with immense personal sacrifice, audacious courage, and sharp instincts, will Costao be able to stand against the empire that runs the show—and at what cost?“
