After much distress due to the COVID-19 surge in Colombia and Argentina, the Copa America is finally scheduled to be played in Brazil but sadly without spectators.

The Copa America 2021 will start on 13th June after being postponed last year due to the pandemic. But the tournament is also facing many obstacles this season as well. However, at last, it was given the green light.

But, it has now been reported that 12 players and officials from the Venezuelan national team has tested positive for the COVID-19. Venezuela was scheduled to play the opening match of the tournament against Brazil.

“They are all asymptomatic, isolated in single rooms and are being monitored by the team of CONMEBOL and local specialists,” said a statement from the health secretariat of the Federal District, which includes Brasilia.

It now seems uncertain how the opening match will go ahead, given the large number of positive cases in the Venezuelan camp, putting the whole tournament in doubt once again.
