Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 3: India’s Medal Hopes Ride on Gymnasts and a Lone Boxer in Glasgow

One bronze already banked, and a quieter day ahead — but “quiet” doesn’t mean nothing’s at stake. Day 3 of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow puts India’s gymnasts, swimmers, and bowlers back in action, even if the confirmed medal events are thin on the ground.

Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 3 Snapshot

Gymnastics Leads the Day’s Medal Hopes

The women’s artistic gymnastics team of Pranati Nayak, Nishka Agarwal, Eshita Rewale, and Protistha Samanta carries the most realistic shot at a podium finish today. The quartet is competing in both team and individual qualification rounds, meaning a strong showing could push them straight into apparatus finals later in the Games. It’s a notable contrast to the men’s gymnastics team, which failed to make an impact earlier in the competition.

Bowls Keeps India’s Winning Streak Alive

In lawn bowls, Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki Singh continue their group stage campaign in the women’s pairs, having already topped their group with an opening win. Meanwhile, Putul Sonowal returns for the men’s singles sectional play after a successful first-round victory, keeping India’s bowls contingent firmly in contention.

One Boxer, One Shot

Sachin Siwach is India’s sole representative in the ring today, opening his campaign in the men’s 60kg category. With no other Indian boxers scheduled, all eyes in that discipline are on his opening bout.

Why Day 3 Is Officially “Medal-Light”

Unlike Day 2, which delivered India’s first medal of the Games through Jhandu Kumar’s bronze in para powerlifting, Day 3 has no guaranteed medal events on the schedule. Any podium finishes today depend entirely on athletes qualifying for finals in gymnastics or swimming — making it a day built more on foundation-laying than guaranteed glory.
