On the morning of June 13 KST, the Korean Film Council confirmed that Colony had reached a total of 5,007,673 moviegoers, achieving this in less than 24 days since its May 21 release. That’s an incredibly fast climb for any film, let alone a genre title.

Beating Last Year’s Biggest Hit

Here’s where Colony’s achievement really stands out. The film hit the 5 million mark two days faster than My Daughter Is a Zombie, which held the title of Korea’s biggest box office hit of 2025. For a film to outpace the previous year’s top performer this early in its run speaks volumes about its word-of-mouth and audience pull.

Colony is also only the second film of 2026 to cross 5 million admissions, following the record-breaking success of The King’s Warden, putting it in elite company for the year so far.

What’s Colony All About?

Directed by the filmmaker behind Train to Busan and Peninsula, Colony follows survivors trapped inside a blockaded building as a rapidly mutating virus turns the infected into increasingly unpredictable threats. The film’s star power doesn’t hurt either, with a cast led by Jun Ji Hyun, Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hyun Been, Kim Shin Rok, Koo Kyo Hwan, and Go Soo.
