If there’s one film that has Hollywood buzzing louder than anything else this summer, it’s Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Lupita Nyong’o’s Double Duty: Helen & Clytemnestra
In Nolan’s extensive interview with Time, it was revealed that Nyong’o would be playing Helen of Troy in The Odyssey — the role she had long been rumoured to play. However, Time also shared that Nyong’o has additionally been cast as Helen’s sister, Clytemnestra.

Nyong’o plays Helen of Troy, the most beautiful woman in the world who is married to Menelaus and gets blamed for starting a war after she’s spirited away by a prince. She also plays Helen’s sister, Clytemnestra, who is married to Menelaus’ brother Agamemnon.
While the depth of Nyong’o’s role remains under wraps, Time teases that Nolan “complicates” the poem’s resolution for Helen — suggesting this won’t be a straightforward retelling.
Zendaya as Athena & Nolan’s Unique Take on the Gods
Zendaya portrays Athena, the goddess of wisdom, warfare, and handicraft, who protects Odysseus on his journey. But don’t expect the gods to appear in the traditional Hollywood way. Nolan considered the idea of casting actors to play the gods of Mount Olympus in a traditional way, then decided to mainly give the gods a presence through nature and his characters’ beliefs. “I became more interested in the idea that, to people in that period, evidence of gods was everywhere,” Nolan said.
Epic in Every Sense
The Odyssey is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic poem, described by Universal as a “mythic action epic” filmed worldwide, with Nolan choosing to depict a realistic interpretation of Greek mythology. According to Wikipedia’s overview of The Odyssey film, it was shot entirely with IMAX film cameras — the kind of cinematic ambition only Nolan consistently delivers.
Despite this large cast of characters, Nolan confirmed the film will be shorter than Oppenheimer, which clocked in at 180 minutes. “It’s an epic film, as the subject matter demands,” Nolan said. “But it is shorter.” webdunia
