Christian Eriksen returns to Inter Milan’s training camp

Christian Eriksen returned to Inter Milan’s training facility today, and medical tests over the next few days will determine his future in football.

Inter confirmed in a statement on their official website that the player is well physically and mentally.

“The Danish midfielder met the club directors, the coach, team-mates and all of the staff present. Eriksen is doing well and is in excellent physical and mental shape.

He will now follow the recovery programme put forward by Danish doctors in Copenhagen, who will also co-ordinate the clinical follow-up. The Inter medical staff will naturally be kept informed and up to date throughout the process.”

The consultations to potentially remove his ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) will begin tomorrow. According to reports coming out of Italy, Eriksen does not wish to retire from football just yet and will await the results of the tests along with his teammates and coaches.

Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s first game in the Euros against Finland. The medical team tended to him early, and used a defibrillator to revive him. He was then taken to a medical facility where he received extensive care to recover.

The presence of the ICD means that the player will not be eligible to play in Italy under the rules in place. However, if the medical tests deem that the device is not necessary in the long run then we could see him return to the football pitch.
