Choi Min-sik as a 37-Year Veteran Intern? The Intern Just Found Its Perfect Casting

Some job titles don’t mean much once real experience walks through the door. In the Korean remake of The Intern, a legendary actor known for playing hardened, intense roles trades all of that in for something completely different — a senior citizen navigating his very first day as a company intern. The results, based on the newly released teaser, look genuinely charming.

The Intern: Overview

What’s the Story?

The Intern follows Gi Ho, a senior intern with 37 years of work experience, as he joins the fast-rising fashion company led by Sun Woo — a CEO who’s turned her company into an industry dark horse just three years after launch. The premise plays on the generational and hierarchical gap between the two: a workplace veteran starting from the bottom, and a young, driven CEO suddenly having to figure out how to work alongside someone who could be her father.

What the Teaser Shows

The newly released teaser leans into gentle comedy built around Gi Ho’s fish-out-of-water energy. He introduces himself with genuine enthusiasm, only to look visibly deflated when no one gives him any real tasks to do. In one moment, he responds to being called on with a hesitant “Me?” — a distinctly junior-intern reaction despite his decades of experience. But his expertise still shines through elsewhere, like when he confidently tells a colleague he’ll look into an issue and report back right away.

Sun Woo, meanwhile, is shown visibly flustered by having someone so much older working under her, admitting it will probably be uncomfortable for him. The teaser also introduces the rest of the Wootutu team, including vice CEO Young Hwan, management support lead Min Ah, and a handful of fellow interns and staff who each bring their own dynamic to the workplace, hinting at an ensemble-driven comedic tone throughout.

Why This Remake Is Worth Watching

Choi Min-sik is widely regarded as one of South Korea’s greatest actors, known for intense, transformative performances in films like Oldboy and I Saw the Devil. Seeing him step into a warm, comedic role this different from his usual work is itself a major draw. Paired with Han So Hee’s rising star power, The Intern looks positioned to offer a lighter, feel-good counterpoint to its source material’s original Hollywood charm.
