How to Activate Free ChatGPT Go

Visit ChatGPT’s website or mobile app and sign in with your account. Navigate to your profile icon and select “Upgrade Your Plan” or access Settings → Subscription. Choose the ChatGPT Go option when prompted.

During checkout, add a payment method—credit card or UPI—for verification purposes. No charges apply during the 12-month promotional period, but payment details enable automatic billing once the free year ends. Complete email or phone OTP verification to activate your account.

Important Catch to Remember

Users must provide payment method verification, and billing automatically resumes after the free year unless canceled. Treat this like a promotional trial—disable auto-renewal before your 12 months expire to avoid charges.

Some users report UPI activation issues with “Invalid VPA” errors despite valid payment IDs. If experiencing problems, try credit/debit card verification instead or contact OpenAI support through their help center.

Why OpenAI Targets India

India, with over 700 million smartphone users and more than a billion internet subscribers, represents OpenAI’s second-largest market after the United States. The company opened its New Delhi office in August 2025, building local teams to expand presence.

This promotion coincides with OpenAI’s first DevDay Exchange in Bengaluru, signaling India’s strategic importance. For competitive AI users, the enhanced features including file uploads, advanced data analysis, and custom GPTs offer significant productivity advantages.

Premium Features Worth Using

ChatGPT Go provides access to GPT-5 model with significantly improved performance over free-tier GPT-4o. Enhanced memory enables personalized interactions across sessions, while higher message limits support extensive daily usage without restrictions.
