Champions League 2024/25 Quarter-Final Ties Set: Arsenal vs Real Madrid, Bayern vs Inter Headline Exciting Clashes

The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League quarter-final matchups have been officially confirmed following the conclusion of the round of 16. The remaining eight teams represent Europe’s top five leagues, promising thrilling encounters as they battle for a place in the semifinals.

Arsenal vs Real Madrid: A Battle of Styles

Defending champions Real Madrid overcame city rivals Atlético Madrid in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 2-2 aggregate tie. Having already knocked out Manchester City in the knockout playoffs, Madrid now turns its attention to Premier League leaders Arsenal.

The Gunners secured their place in the last eight with a convincing victory over PSV Eindhoven. Their reward is a showdown against the 15-time European champions, with the first leg scheduled in London on April 8 or 9, before the return fixture at the Santiago Bernabéu on April 15 or 16.

PSG vs Aston Villa: Mbappé Faces Potential Reunion

Paris Saint-Germain, fresh from eliminating top-seeded Liverpool, faces Aston Villa in the quarter-finals. The French champions will host the first leg in Paris on April 9, with the return in England on April 15.

This matchup sets up a fascinating semifinal scenario, as the winner could face either Arsenal or Real Madrid. Should PSG advance, it could set up a showdown between Kylian Mbappé and his potential future or past club.

Barcelona vs Borussia Dortmund: Lewandowski Meets His Former Side

Borussia Dortmund pulled off an impressive comeback against Lille to secure a place in the quarter-finals. Their next challenge is a clash against Barcelona, a club featuring former Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski.

The first leg will take place in Spain on April 9, with the return leg in Germany on April 15. This fixture promises an exciting battle between two clubs known for their attacking philosophy.

Bayern Munich vs Inter Milan: A Rematch of the 2010 Final

Bayern Munich and Inter Milan will reignite their rivalry in the quarter-finals. Their last significant European encounter was in the 2010 Champions League final, where Inter, led by José Mourinho, secured a historic victory.

The first leg is set to take place at Bayern’s Allianz Arena on April 8 or 9, the same venue that will host the Champions League final on May 31. The second leg at the San Siro is scheduled for April 16.

Prize Money and the Financial Divide

The quarter-finalists will each receive €12.5 million ($13.6 million), with semifinalists earning an additional €15 million ($16.3 million). UEFA’s total prize pool for this season stands at nearly €2.5 billion ($2.7 billion), further widening the financial gap in European football.

Notably, only clubs from England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France remain in the competition. This marks the 20th consecutive season in which no team from outside these five leagues has reached the final, with Porto’s 2004 triumph being the last exception.
