BSNL Rs 202 vs Rs 247 Prepaid Plan: 2 Packs Compared

BSNL has quietly added a new Rs 202 prepaid voucher. The details come from a TelecomTalk post, which also compares it with the existing Rs 247 plan and asks readers which gives better value.

The two packs target very different users, so here is a plain side-by-side.

BSNL: Key Details at a Glance

Who Should Pick the Rs 202 Plan

The Rs 202 pack suits people who mainly keep a number alive. With 300 minutes and 5GB, light users who rely on Wi-Fi can cover a month for little. The insurance benefit is a bonus, though the post does not describe the cover.

After 5GB, speed drops to 40 Kbps, which is enough for little more than basic messaging.

Who Should Pick the Rs 247 Plan

The Rs 247 plan costs Rs 45 more but gives unlimited voice calling and 50GB of data, ten times the data of the cheaper plan. Anyone using mobile data daily will find it much better value per GB.

The validity is two days shorter, so the cost per day is slightly higher, but the benefits more than make up for it. See more BSNL news on our site.

About BSNL

State-run BSNL has been using low-cost vouchers to keep price-sensitive users. It has not made a big announcement for this plan, which is why TelecomTalk described it as a silent launch.

Value Maths: Rs 202 vs Rs 247

Per day, the Rs 202 plan costs about Rs 6.31 over 32 days, while the Rs 247 plan costs about Rs 8.23 over 30 days. The cheaper plan wins on daily cost, but only if you can live with 5GB of data and 300 minutes.

On data, the gap is stark. The Rs 202 plan works out to roughly Rs 40 per GB of high-speed data, while the Rs 247 plan comes to under Rs 5 per GB. If you use more than a few GB, the second pack is far better value, and unlimited calling removes any worry about the minute cap.

There is a third use for the cheaper pack: a secondary SIM. People who keep a BSNL number for OTPs, banking alerts or a backup network can pay a small amount each month and still get a few hundred minutes if needed.

As always with prepaid plans, check the plan in the BSNL app or on the official site before recharging, since offers can differ by circle and can be withdrawn without notice.
