Borderlands 4 Switch 2 Port Canceled After “Perfect Fit” Claims

Take-Two Interactive has officially paused development on Borderlands 4 for Nintendo Switch 2, effectively canceling the port despite Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford previously calling the hardware a “perfect fit” for the game in May 2025.

Borderlands 4 Switch 2: What Went Wrong?

In May 2025, Pitchford praised Switch 2: “When you play Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2, you’ll realize how perfect this platform is. We don’t feel like we’re fighting the system.”

Four months later, the game was delayed indefinitely—one week before launch. Take-Two: “We made the difficult decision to pause development. Our focus is delivering quality content and optimizations.”

Performance Problems

Borderlands 4 suffered severe PC issues at launch (September 2025)—stuttering, low frame rates, poor optimization. Take-Two CEO called sales “softer than expected” due to technical failures.

Porting an unoptimized game to weaker Switch 2 proved impractical. PAX/Gamescom 2025 demos showed playable but flawed performance.

What’s Next?

The 2026 roadmap includes Story Packs, Vault Hunters, and Bounty Packs for PS5/Xbox/PC—but omits Switch 2. First DLC “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned” launches Q1 2026.

Take-Two maintains it’s collaborating on PGA Tour 2K25 and WWE 2K26 for Switch 2, but Borderlands 4 joins canceled ports like Aliens: Colonial Marines.

While 2.5 million players joined across platforms, Switch 2 owners miss out. “Pause” language mirrors indefinite cancellations—paused Nintendo ports rarely resume.
