Borderlands 3 Crossplay Update Has Been Released, But PlayStation is Left Out

Gearbox Software and 2K has announced the release of mostly awaited crossplay update of Borderlands 3 on PC (both Epic Games Store and Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia, and Mac. Unfortunately, PlayStation users are the only ones left out, though Gearbox president Randy Pitchford already gave some hints a while ago.

The reason is not clear, but might be because Sony requires publishers to pay additional fees when crossplay is featured in their games.

If you are going to enable the crossplay in Borderlands 3, follow this procedure below:

“Borderlands 3 Crossplay between the aforementioned platforms is made possible by SHiFT Matchmaking, and you’ll be greeted by an opt-in window when the Crossplay Update is live. Regardless of whether you choose to enable or disable Crossplay, you’ll be prompted to set a Crossplay Display Name, which is required for SHiFT Matchmaking functionality. Your Crossplay Display Name must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be a unique name not already in use by another Borderlands 3 player
  • Must be between 3-16 characters long
  • Must start with a letter, and is limited to a-z, A-Z, 0-9, or non-consecutive underscore, hyphen, or period/full-stop characters

You can change your display name on your personal account page on the SHiFT website, or in Borderlands 3 via the Social menu option from the main menu or pause menu. Simply click Social, switch to the SHiFT tab, and change your Crossplay Display Name in the Account Details section.”

After adding the crossplay update, the latest update has introduced a season event The Revengence of Revenge of the Cartels, a level cap increase to a new maximum of 72, and the Endless Seasonal Events feature.
