Why Blood Coast Season 2 Is One of Europe’s Most Anticipated Returns

After its release in December 2023, the first season of Blood Coast gathered 5.6 million views in its first 4 days of release, making it one of the best European series launches at the time — way beyond other new French series.

On November 12th, Netflix confirmed the global release of the second season on December 9th, 2025. The sophomore season runs for 6 episodes.

Star Tewfik Jallab returns for season 2 as Lyès Benamar, alongside supporting cast members Jeanne Goursaud, Idir Azougli, Olivier Barthélémy, Lani Sogoyou, and Samir Boitard. On the writing side, creator Olivier Marchal is joined by veteran screenwriter Olivier Dujols, who has credits on hit shows including Falco and the acclaimed The Bureau. For the direction, Olivier Marchal will cede an unspecified number of episodes to director Nicolas Guicheteau, known for his work on Spiral and B.R.I.

The first teaser trailer was released, revealing new shots of the main and supporting characters set to IAM’s classic 1997 track, Demain, C’est Loin. That musical choice alone perfectly encapsulates the show’s spirit — raw, street-level Marseille energy.

Season 3 Is Already Being Written

This is the detail that really proves how confident Netflix is in Blood Coast. Creator Olivier Marchal — a former police inspector turned filmmaker — has begun writing season 3 even as season 2 gears up for release. The momentum comes from season 1’s remarkable performance, when it ranked in Netflix’s global top 10 for three consecutive weeks across 83 territories, drawing more than 10 million views.

The show is rooted deeply in Marseille’s complex cultural and criminal landscape. To understand the city’s layered history that gives Blood Coast its authenticity, Wikipedia’s article on Marseille is a brilliant read.
