Huawei now relies on MediaTek chips, SoC orders increased by 300%

0

Huawei was one of the three smartphone manufacturing companies who ship smartphones with its own chips and it’s HiSilicon Kirin SoCs accounting for 70% to 80%. However, as the US trade ban for Huawei extends till May 2021, the situation has changed completely.

Also, this means Huawei will be unable to order new wafers from its primary chip supplier TSMC although they have reserved 5 nm nodes from TSMC for its upcoming Kirin 1020. But for its other smartphones, Huawei needs other alternatives which bring up the name of MediaTek who has been its partner for quite some time now.

Huawei’s now relies on MediaTek chips, SoC orders increased by 300%

But this time, Huawei will be using MediaTek’s premium 7 nm based 5G chipsets like Dimensity 1000, Dimensity 800 as well. Previously, Huawei used MediaTek lower-end 4G chips in its low and mid-range smartphones.

According to the latest reports by mydrivers, Huawei’s orders for the MediaTek chips have increased by a whopping 300% this year while the Taiwanese Silicon manufacturer is evaluating whether they have sufficient resources to meet Huawei’s demands.

This will be a significant chance for MediaTek to supply a huge amount of SoCs in Huawei’s smartphones which can be a game-changing move against its sole rival Qualcomm. Also, this report is quite justified of the fact that Huawei recently announced its new Enjoy Z 5G smartphone with MediaTek Dimensity 800.

Facebook is offering permanent Work from Home opportunity for its employees

At the present pandemic condition all the possible companies are shifted to Work from Home strategy for safety purposes. It is running for over a month and few companies like Facebook are adopting this work culture permanently. Though it is optional, for Facebook at least.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted an article on his Facebook account last Thursday and announced the permanent work from home option for its existing employees. As per Mark, more than 50% of the employees are still equally productive as they were before this pandemic.

Around 40% of current employees of Facebook are willing to be a full-time remote worker. And among these 40% of people, 75% wanted to move to another place. For these employees, the permanent work from home approach will be very beneficial.

I just spoke with our employees about what we've learned about remote working and how we're planning to support it…

Posted by Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday, May 21, 2020

Mark wrote to his article, “Over the next 5-10 years, I think we could have 50% of our people working remotely, but we’re going to get there in a measured way. I think Facebook will be the most forward-leaning company on remote work at our scale, and we’ve been working on a thoughtful and responsible plan to do this.”

Facebook sets a goal of remote hiring for experienced engineers in the cities where the Facebook engineering offices are located. The locations are Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Portland, and San Diago.

As the salary is adjustable as per the employees’ location, Facebook also adjust that for remote workers. If anyone will dishonest about the location, there will be “severe ramifications” for them.

60% of AMD Ryzen 4000G desktop APUs confirmed by Biostar

0

AMD is not only prepared to launch its Zen 3 based Ryzen 4000 processors but also its new Zen 2 based Ryzen 4000 desktop APUs with Radeon graphics. Now, confirmed with up to 8 cores, the Ryzen 7 4700G was already spotted days ago and now a leak by Biostar confirms almost 60% of the upcoming AMD Ryzen 4000G desktop APUs.

Spotted by @KOMACHI_ENSAKA and the leaked APUs on Biostar’s RACING B550GTQ motherboard support page which was taken down soon confirms the OPN codes of the APUs leaked earlier by Igor’sLAB.

So as per the leaks, it is evident AMD is planning bug this time and will provide APUs with 35 W and 65 W TDP. The lineup will include various versions of Renoir APUs with “GE” and “G” suffix and also the “PRO” versions of the 65 W based G-series desktop APUs. As for now, these OPN codes are confirmed against these following APUs:

  • 100-000000143 – Ryzen 5 4400G
  • 100-000000145 – Ryzen 7 PRO 4700G
  • 100-000000148 – Ryzen 3 PRO 4200G
  • 100-000000149 – Ryzen 7 4700GE
  • 100-000000150 – Ryzen 5 4400GE
  • 100-000000151 – Ryzen 3 4200GE
60% of AMD Ryzen 4000G desktop APUs confirmed by Biostar
The Biostar RACING B550GTQ motherboard support page with 7 Ryzen 4000G APUs

Now, rest of the OPN codes does include the existence of the Ryzen 3 4200G or the Ryzen 5 PRO 4400G. According to igor’sLAB, the Ryzen 3 4200G can be the “100-000000144” or “100-000000154” and the the Ryzen 5 PRO 4400G could be the “100-000000147” or “100-000000153”.

However, one thing to note will be that the OPN codes from “100-000000143” to “100-000000154″ denotes the fact there will be four versions of three main APUs apart from the existing G”, “PRO G” and “GE” variants. Also, the leak published by igor’sLAB, confirmed that there can be between 12 – 22 Ryzen 4000G APUs.

Soon, with more leaks this can be confirmed but even though it is confirmed that they will launch the Ryzen 4000 desktop processors in September most probably, but there’ no solid evidence behind the launch date of these Ryzen 3, Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 4000G APUs.

Intel’s upcoming 6 core/12 thread Rocket Lake-S CPU spotted on 3DMark

0

Having released the Comet Lake-S desktop processors, Intel is already preparing to counter the upcoming Zen 3 based Ryzen 4000 desktop processors. Intel’s Comet Lake CPUs are quite good over last-gen especially some of their CPUs including the Core i5-10600K or the Core i7-10700K.

Even though team blue has decreased their CPU prices by significant amount, the price of buying a new Z490 montherboard can be an expensive affair for most of the buyers and also the lack of in-box cooler adds more to the expense as well.

In spite of the fact almost a year has passed the Ryzen 3000 desktop CPUs still have a huge demand in the market and the lowering prices of it make it a killer deal for most of the PC enthusiasts. Also, pairing it with cheaper B450 motherboards makes the deal even sweeter for buyers.

Intel 10th Gen Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs launched: Up to 10 cores on 14nm, gaming still Intel's priority
via The Verge

So, the new Comet Lake-S desktop CPUs still find it hard to cope up with AMD and in the meantime, in the coming months the competition will again gain its heat with new Ryzen 4000 CPUs. But one thing is to be noted that these new 10th Gen Intel CPUs have extraordinary clock speeds that help in gaming as well as in single-threaded workload.

Intel’s next-generation desktop CPUs or so-called Rocket Lake-S desktop processors have been spotted on 3DMark by the trusted tipster @_rogame. These CPUs are expected to launch by the end of 2020 with a new microarchitecture that consists of the Willow Cove cores from the Tiger Lake mobile CPUs.

But being based on the same old 14 nm process will not bring significant improvements over the last generation. An engineering sample spotted on 3DMark gives a fair idea of the upcoming processors.

It comes with 6 cores and 12 threads with a base clock speed of 3.5 GHz and a boost of up to 4.1 GHz but @_rogame explains there are several entries with 4.2 GHz boost clocks. This could actually be the successor to the recently released Core i5-10400 with 6 cores and 12 threads along with 2.9 GHz base clock speed and up to 4.3 GHz boost.

As @_rogame points out there’s a minor difference in scores because of the 100 MHz difference as the Rocket Lake-S managed to score 11,887 points while the Comet Lake-S score 12,828 points. As this is an engineering sample performances are expected to be improved in the future.

Another thing to note is that the Rocket Lake-S CPU has higher graphics score of 1,900 points over 1,822 of the Core i5-10400 due to the inclusion of the next-gen Intel Xe iGPU. With increased power limits these chips are to get significant performance boost than last-gen.

Apart from performance improvements, these chips will still be compatible with the new LGA 1200 socket that is supposed to come with PCIe 4.0 lanes on the new Z490 motherboards. The Rocket Lake-S will support PCIe gen 4.0, new Xe iGPUs and support Thunderbolt 4 and USB 3.2 20G.

Bayern Munich won’t make Coutinho’s loan move permanent

Philippe Coutinho, who was once seen as a future star during his Liverpool days, has found it difficult to make his mark in football in the last few years after his move to Barcelona.

He was one of the best Premier League players when Barcelona signed him in the middle of the 2017-18 campaign. But the transfer to Camp Nou didn’t suit him well. Not always a transfer to a big European club goes well. Coutinho’s career graph has gone done drastically since then.

coutinho

Barcelona had sent Coutinho on loan to Bayern Munich for this season. But unfortunately, he hasn’t found his feet at Bayern Munich as well. Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that they won’t make the loan deal permanent.

Rummenigge told German magazine Der Spiegel: “The option expired and we haven’t activated it. We’re going to plan our squad for next season and we’ll see if he still has a role to play with us or not.”

coutinho mane

Coutinho had the best days of his career in the Premier League playing for Liverpool. Liverpool has already put a stop to the transfer speculation regarding Coutinho’s return. But there are many other Premier League clubs, like Chelsea and Arsenal who would like the Brazillian on their team sheet. Newcastle United are also rumoured to be interested in him if Mohamed bin Salman takes over the club.

Philippe Coutinho’s representative, Kia Joorabchian said to Sky Sports News: “The Premier League is something that he has always enjoyed playing in, and loved playing in, and would probably love to come back and play in.”

It seems a Premier League return is on the cards for Coutinho. His style of play suits the Premier League. He doesn’t fit into Barcelona’s game plan. So it’s better for him to accept a transfer to the Premier League.

Lyon president angry with LFP’s decision to end the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season

0

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas is not happy with LFP’s decision to cancel the Ligue 1 season without waiting to see out the Coronavirus pandemic and then resuming the league again, like Bundesliga or soon to resume LaLiga.

According to Aulas, LFP should have also waited and shown some patience before cancelling the season. LFP used points-per-game method to crown PSG the 2019-20 Ligue 1 champions. But all the players and clubs would have liked to play out the campaign to find out the champion.

ligue 1

Lyon President told L’Equipe: “In reality, what was said in the UEFA meeting, was: ‘patience’. When I see that we had French football representatives who were present, and who took different conclusions, you think to yourself that we must be idiots, excuse me for the term…”

“[Javier] Tebas said that a permanent stoppage would be a nightmare and that it would only serve those who had personal interests. The health protocols are today merely normal tools. UEFA have gone as far as producing their own protocol, which we are not even looking at in France. It is an absolute scandal.”

“It is nevertheless paradoxical that a country like Spain, which has been more affected than France by the pandemic, has thought about and found answers.”

aulas tebas

Aulas will formally take this matter to the national courts in a bid to reconsider LFP’s decision to terminate the league. Lyon has backed up their president’s statements and have released an official statement.

The official statement read: “Javier Tebas explained since La Liga’s suspension how a permanent stop would be a very large economic and social disaster for Spanish football, which he estimated at €1billion in the event of a permanent stop but ‘only’ €300m in the event of a recovery [behind closed doors].”

“Olympique Lyonnais hopes that the example of Spain coming after that of Germany [the Bundesliga returned behind closed doors last weekend] will make it possible to reconsider the decision taken in France too hastily.”

“We can reasonably imagine the position of the coaches and players of the French championship is today much more favourable to a resumption of competition than during the UNFP [France’s players union] poll of April 23 or when Didier Deschamps told president Emmanuel Macron on April 27 of his reluctance and fears for the health of the players.”

Ligue 1 is the only league among the top five European leagues to have cancelled their season. Bundesliga has resumed on 16th May and LaLiga has received the green light from the government to resume from 8th June. Serie A and Premier League are also heading towards resuming their leagues.
