Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 featuring the new hexa-core Intel Core i7-10810U with vPro spotted

0

Originally announced in CES 2020, Lenovo’s new ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 featuring Intel Comet Lake CPUs brought everyone to surprise that why Lenovo is using the 14nm process instead of the newer and more efficient 10nm Ice Lake CPUs.

The major reason for this was there’s a significant difference between a consumer laptop and a business laptop which requires more security and manageability features, much needed for corporate work.

Intel vPro CPUs are very important for such uses and it’s very disappointing that even though a year of the original announcement of the Intel Ice Lake CPUs have passed but the new Ice Lake CPUs do not support such features which the Comet Lake CPUs does.

The product page of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 says that you can opt up to up to 10th Generation Intel Core i7-10810U with vPro. This 14 nm processor has similar specs to the existing Intel Core i7-10710U featuring six CPU cores and the same clock speeds of up to 4.70 GHz with 12MB and 15 W TDP.

This is a thin and lightweight laptop with up to 18+ hours of battery life along with best-in-class connectivity, and rapid charging technology. The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 packs up to 4K Dolby Vision panels along with a new 500 nit FHD PrivacyGuard AG display with PrivacyAlert.

The laptop is MIL-SPEC tested and also support Dolby Atmos audio, it is paired with LPDDR3 8 GB / 16 GB RAM and up to 2 TB PCIe SSD. The keyboard remains the same as last gen, now comes equipped with VoIP call buttons, rest all of the design also is conserved compared to 2019 models.

The availability of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 with Core i7-10810U is unknown as for now but being uploaded on the product page we can expect to be start shipping soon. The updated Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 has a starting price of $1,499 (around Rs.1,07,600).

In the coming days, we can expect more business laptops featuring this CPU but its sad to see even though 10nm has been introduced for a year now we have to wait until 2021 to see 10nm based vPro CPUs.

Microsoft Surface Go 2 with m3-8100Y & LTE appears on 3DMark listings

0

Another Surface product has been leaked recently and it is the Microsoft Surface Go 2 which seems interesting as the original Surface Go was launched back in July 2018. It does need a refresh as because the Windows-based tablet was received well in the market.

The Surface Go was a well built Windows device powered by the Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y and was offered at a comparatively lower price. Even though the processor was capable of the everyday tasks, this dual-core SoC is now quite old and needs a refresh.

Microsoft Surface Go 2 with m3-8100Y & LTE appears on 3DMark listings

New listings of the alleged Surface Go 2 have been spotted on 3DMark and the two devices have been spotted by _rogame. Previously also the tipster gave us a 3DMark listing of the Surface Book 3, and now we have another Microsoft device.

Microsoft Surface Go 2 with m3-8100Y & LTE appears on 3DMark listings

Both of the listings seemingly to use the “OEMRX OEMRX Product Name EV2” motherboard and can be the successor to the “OEMRX OEMRX Product Name EV1” which emerged last year as a possible Core m3-8100Y refresh of the original Surface Go.

Talking about the Intel Core m3-8100Y, it is a dual-core CPU launched back in August 2018. It has a base clock speed of 1.10 GHz and a boost clock up to 3.40 GHz, and the Core m3-8100Y has double the volume of L3 cache. The iGPU is same on both the Pentium Gold 4415Y and Core m3-8100Y but the latter scores better in GPU benchmarks.

Overall, the Intel Core m3-8100Y will be a significant upgrade over last-gen and will be ideal for daily basic tasks and browsing. Among the two 3DMark listings reported with OEMRX EV2 motherboards, one appears to be an LTE capable device and the other one might be only the WiFi variant.

Even though a Core m3-8100Y-powered OEMRX EV1 Microsoft Surface Go 2 never made the market but it might be possible that an OEMRX EV2 motherboard paired with Intel Core m3-8100Y might arrive along with the alleged Surface Book 3 in 2020.

AMD to introduce next-gen RDNA based Navi GPUs in 2020

0

AMD started the GPU business in 2020 with a mess actually after the launch of Radeon RX 5600 XT. The last-minute price cut by NVIDIA forced the Red team to push a BIOS update to increase the performances, when most of the GPUs were already shipped by the board partners.

However, the company eyes to launch the next-gen RDNA based Navi GPUs in 2020 as NVIDIA too are going to introduce their Ampere GPUs soon in 2020.

“In 2019, we launched our new architecture in GPUs, it’s the RDNA architecture, and that was the Navi-based products. You should expect those will be refreshed in 2020 and we’ll have our next-generation RDNA architecture that will be part of our 2020 lineup”

AMD CEO Lisa Su
AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT with new vBIOS update brings up to 11% better performance

If you are confused on the ‘Navi-refresh’ term then all we can that we won’t see refreshed versions of RX 5500, RX 5600, and RX 5700 cards. Su clearly said of adding new cards to the existing lineup, which will eventually be based out of AMD’s next-gen RDNA architecture.

Not much is known about the next-gen RDNA architecture but we can guess it is the same architecture that the upcoming PS5 and Xbox consoles will be featuring. It is also said the next-gen RDNA might have Ray Tracing support as well.

Even though Su has not clearly stated anything about these cards and the architecture but we expect AMD would share more details at its Investor Day on March 5. Recent leaks of Big Navi GPUs also gives hints of AMD’s upcoming launch and the race against NVIDIA’s top tier RTX 2080 GPUs.

AMD experience record-breaking revenues in Q4 2019

0

The Red team has recently announced its Q4 earnings of 2019 and its annual financial reports as well. In 2019, AMD experienced the highest revenues in the past six years majorly due to the sales from the Ryzen 3000 CPUs, new Navi GPUs and its server-end CPUs.

The severe jump to the 7nm platform in 2019 played a key role for the company not only on the CPU front as well as on the GPU business as well. From the Ryzen 3000 to Navi GPUs or from the Threadripper 3000 to the AMD EPYC CPUs we experienced a year of 7nm in 2019.

AMD experience record-breaking revenues in Q4 2019

AMD’s CEO Dr Lisa Su has reported the company’s Q4 2019 revenue reached US$2.13 billion, while the yearly revenue topped at a record-breaking US$6.73 billion, which is in fact 4% higher than 2018 one. On the other hand, Intel has reported US$10 billion in revenues for the 4th quarter of 2019 alone.

Only the 7nm Ryzen 3000 CPUs along with the Radeon RX 5000-series GPUs brought in US$4.7 billion revenue, which is a 69% increase over the CPU + GPU revenues generated in 2018. This is a major achievement for the company and we knew something like this could happen after the massive earnings in Q3 2019.

AMD Ryzen 7 4800H: 8C/16T APU with 4.3GHz boost clock & 19K 3DMark Physics score

According to AMD, the company has experienced the highest CPU sales in 6 years, while the GPU shipments grew by “double-digit” percentages on a YoY basis. The Red team will be focusing more on the 7nm products in 2020 and try to increase the production to meet the demands, adjust price as per Intel’s upcoming offerings in the CPU market.

AMD has also managed to reduce its debt by ⅔, from US$4.5 billion in 2009 to US$1.5 billion in 2019, and 50% of it was mitigated only in 2019. Overall, AMD eyes a 45% gross margin and 30 % revenue increase in 2020.

With the Ryzen 4000 mobile APUs, upcoming next-gen consoles powered by AMD, the company has a busy schedule in 2020 as well. AMD will also be bringing the Ryzen 4000 to desktop and the next-gen RDNA based Navi GPUs.

Carrasco makes a sensational return to Atletico Madrid

0

Yannick Carrasco will make a return to his former club after spending nearly 2 years with Chinese club Dalian Yifang. He joined Dalian Yifang in February 2018.

After two successful seasons with the Chinese club, the Belgium international has resigned with Atletico Madrid.

He played 3 seasons with Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone after joining from Monaco in 2015. He made 124 appearances during his first stint with the club and scored 24 goals along 17 assists.

But, the Belgium forward clashed with Simeone and left Atletico Madrid in the middle of the 2017-18 season.

Atletico Madrid have signed Carrasco on an initial six-month loan deal with an option to make the transfer permanent in the summer for €12.5m.

Atletico tried and failed to sign Edinson Cavani from PSG for the duration of the transfer market. The team needs attacking help and Carrasco has wanted to return to Europe for some time. Dalian Yifang are owned by the Wanda Group — which also sponsors the Wanda Metropolitano, so it helped the transfer to complete smoothly.

simeone carrasco

Simeone said: “[Carrasco] is excited and wants to be here. If the paperwork is done, he will certainly be with us [against Madrid]. I want him to come with the same commitment we spoke about on the telephone. I liked Yannick’s desire to come to Atletico. That is an important step for what can happen next.”

Barcelona have signed Portuguese wonderkid Francisco Trincao

0

Barcelona have done a Real Madrid thing. For the last few seasons, Real Madrid have made it their policy to sign talented youngsters at a very young age and then nurture their talent rather than spending billions on Galacticos.

The Catalans have now signed 20-year-old forward Francisco Trincao from Braga for a reported fee of €31 million. Trincao will spend the rest of the season at Braga before joining the Spanish giants on 1st July 2020. He will sign a five-year contract and will have a release clause of €500m.

francisco trincao

Barcelona confirmed the transfer in an official statement: ” FC Barcelona and SC Braga have reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Francisco Trincao who will join the club on 1 July 2020. The transfer fee is 31 million euros and the player will sign a contract with the Club for the next five seasons, until the end of the 2024/25 campaign with a buy-out clause of 500 million euros.”

Francisco Trincao was the joint top-scorer with five goals and most assists at the 2018 European Under-19 Championships as Portugal emerged as champions. He made his first-team debut for Braga in December 2018. He has scored three goals and provided six assists in 21 games across all competitions for Braga this season.

francisco trincao

Barcelona described the Portuguese wonderkid: “The young Portuguese forward can play anywhere up front although he usually features on the wing, on either flank despite being left-footed. Trincao is quick and technically gifted with a vision that means he is a great creator of goals as well. The new Barca player also has the ability to take defenders on with his dribbling skills.”

Trincao is a very highly rated forward and will replace Carles Perez in the squad, who joined Roma initially on a loan deal.

Copa del Rey: The quarter-final draw in full

0

The Copa del Rey round of 16 have been played. Real Madrid and Barcelona have progressed to the quarter-finals comfortably beating their opponents 4-0 and 5-0 respectively.

The biggest shock of the Copa del Rey round of 16 was the 3-1 defeat of Sevilla against second-tier Mirandes. Mirandes remains the only team in the Copa del Rey quarter-finals who doesn’t play in LaLiga.

Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui said: “We apologise. We are all tremendously sad, but we have to back up quickly. We were prisoners of our bad start and they took advantage to get ahead. In this format, one bad game means you are eliminated.”

julen lopetegui

“The first goal was key. It gave them a lot of energy and generated doubts [for us]. When three substitutions are made, it’s because the first one to make a mistake was the coach.”

“We tried to score early in the second half but everything was against us. The goal we expected did not come and we have been eliminated by a good team that was superior. It’s a big blow, without a doubt. We were very excited, but we have to pick ourselves up.”

Now the Copa del Rey quarter-final draw have been made on Friday.

The quarter-final draw in full:

  • Real Madrid v Real Sociedad
  • Athletic Club v Barcelona
  • Granada v Valencia
  • Mirandes v Villarreal
