Google finally bringing multiple window support to Chrome on iPadOS13

Google is bringing a new feature to its Chrome app on iPad. The new feature is nothing but the support for multiple windows in chrome. This feature already exists for windows and it took the android maker almost a year to launch this feature for Chrome, since the browser’s debut in iPadOS 13. The new feature however is still in the testing phase and is expected to be released for all users with the next major update.

The new feature allows creating multiple instances of the chrome browser. These windows can then be paired with other apps and be used for multi-tasking. The windows can also be used side by side allowing for an increase in productivity.

While the release of multiple windows app on iPadOS is quite amazing and is a welcome feature. Google has been quite slow when it comes to releasing featured updates of its iOS apps. It took the android maker half a year to release dark mode for Gmail. While the youtube app on iOS still does not support features like picture in picture video playback.

Along with multiple windows chrome now supports other new features like Safety Check for safe browsing and also compromised passwords check, screenshot support for full webpages, improved Files app support, and much more.

On your iPad, you can now have multiple windows of Chrome at the same time. Tap and hold a link, and then choose “Open in New Window.”
A new feature in Settings, called Safety Check, allows you to check whether you’re on the latest version of Chrome, whether you have Safe Browsing enabled, and whether you have any compromised passwords.
You can now take a screenshot of a whole webpage. After you have taken a screenshot, at the top, choose “Full Page.”
When you open files directly in Chrome, tap the “Open In” button to see more options for saving or interacting with files.

Google has not updated the menus in Chrome to match the ones in iOS 13 and later. Maybe it is waiting to implement it after half a year, pun intended. Let’s hope it picks up speed in releasing timely features for its iOS apps.

MediaTek makes a record September revenue of $1.32 billion

The Taiwan Silicon giant MediaTek has impressed all of us in 2020 with its revolutionary Dimensity SoCs with 5G support. This is the reason why MediaTek is making some pretty big numbers when it comes to revenue each month.

As per latest Digitimes report, MediaTek’s revenue surged to 15.7% sequentially while a handsome 61.2% on a year-on-year basis. This is the highest revenue record of NT$37.87 billion (or US$1.32 billion) in the month of September.

So, its total Q3 revenue jumped to NT$97.17 billion (or US$3.38 billion) rising to whopping 43.9% compared to last quarter even beating the company’s expected range of NT$82.5 billion to NT$87.9 billion.

MediaTek has delivered cost-efficient 5G SoCs for both the Chinese smartphone market as well as for US vendors as well. Also, in the fourth quarter too, MediaTek could actually make some healthy numbers as well.

The smartphone SoC maker is also expected to reach an annual high record revenue of NT$300 billion in 2020.

Snapdragon 875 fail to perform A13 Bionic in early Benchmark results are out

Semiconductor wars have brought forth major changes in the tech industry, with most of the fabric manufacturers adopting to 5nm, 7nm, and 10nm manufacturing process. The wafers being developed are capable of outperforming their predecessors by leaps and bounds.

However, there is still one smartphone processor that has outperformed everyone. We are talking about Apple’s A13 Bionic. The process remains unmatched in performance. All the other processors from Qualcomm, Samsung, and others have failed to even touch the A13 Bionic in terms of single and multi-core performance ratings.

But thankfully it seems that Qualcomm is all set to make its grand appearance with its new entry Snapdragon 875. A tipster has shared with us the first performance results of the new entry from Qualcomm.

The new Snapdragon 875 is expected to beat the Cupertino giants new entry A14 Bionic that will debut along with iPhone 12

However, as of now, the GeekBench scores cannot be compared between Snapdragon 875 and Apple’s A14 Bionic as the latter is not yet available for any review. But since Apple’s A13 Bionic is available on iPhone 11, we have on our hands the latest Geekbench results of Snapdragon 875 pitted against the current champion.

Snapdragon 875 new machine from a certain factory ran the actual test, the engineering machine can not run GB5, it runs GB4 single-core 4.9K±, multi-core 14k±. For reference, Snapdragon 865GB4 single-core 4.3k, multi-core 13k.

Below are the comparison details between Snapdragon 875 and Apple’s A13 Bionic.

The results are clear regarding the verdict. Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 875 has failed to overtake Apple A13 Bionic. The throne still belongs to the defending champion.

But the ray of light still shines for Snapdragon 875, as sources claim that the tested sample is not the final product of the wafer and it will receive significant upgrades before being officially launched in the market. As to how it would actually fare up against Apple’s A14 Bionic, only time would tell.

Lenovo ThinkPad C13 Yoga Enterprise is the first Chromebook with a pointing stick

Chromebooks have always been boring and meant for education only; however, in 2020, this norm has changed a lot. More and more OEMs are putting effort to make Chromebooks business ready and usable for professional purposes as well.

The Lenovo ThinkPad C13 Yoga Enterprise is a similar approach by the Chinese OEM, who looks to makes this Chromebook the first one to offer a “pointing stick” cursor. One of the major selling points of Lenovo’s ThinkPad series is the pointing stick which is a small joystick in red colour (for Lenovo), with which you can move your mouse speedily to use the cursor.

Google has now allowed OEMs to use this feature and thus the Lenovo ThinkPad C13 Yoga Chromebook Enterprise edition does have so for business users. I do not know how many opt for a Chromebook for professional work, however, with faster processors and good specs, a lot of people do like them as they do not cost much.

Notebook and PC sales have finally picked up their tracks

The current pandemic era has brought forth tremendous changes in how we see and use technology. With the demands for high-end machines increasing, tech industries across the world have seen huge business growth in the market. But the sales of the PC and Notebooks were at a halt for quite some time now.

Well, there are many reasons for that. From OEMs trying to adopt to intel’s latest Evo platform criteria to the shockwaves sent across the tech industry by the semiconductor wars. Notebook supply has been falling short to meet the demands.

But things have finally picked up tracks.

The technology analyst firm Canalys reports that computer manufacturers have shipped a whooping of 79 million personal computers in the third quarter of 2020. Which is 13% uptick of year-over-year supply. The leading supplier among this however is Lenovo.

The report also stated that Acer shipped 5.6 million units in the last quarter and gained over a 15% increase from its year-ago quarter.

But the leader board rank 1 Lenovo has shipped the most units in the third quarter. With a whopping sales of 19.3 million devices, the company saw an increase of an 11 percent increase from last year. It followed closely by HP with 18.6 million sales and a 12 percent year-over-year uptick.

The PC manufacturer Dell shipped 11.9 million units in the third quarter but suffered a decrease of 0.5% from the year prior. The Cupertino giant, on the other hand, has shipped 6.3 million units with an increase of 13.2%.

He demand for high-performing desktops and laptops is increasing in the market. With people spending thousands of dollars just to upgrade their rig. The sudden increase in people working from home amidst the pandemic has only boosted the demand for high performing systems. The manufacturers have to keep up with these demands as the curve will only keep rising up.

Gmail joins the list of Go apps available on PlayStore

Google has been offering its GO variants for most of its popular apps. We have a Youtube Go with us which most of us I am sure of. But do you know that we will now have ourselves a Gmail Go as well? Google made its new app available on Play Store for users to download and it did so without any prior information or notice.

But the recent report which came today claims that Google Go is no longer available on the play store as the Android maker had previously uploaded the app by accident.

The authorities were quick enough to correct their error and it seems that the new app is no longer available for non-Android Go devices.

The non-android go devices now get the warning that their device stating that their device is not compatible with this version.

The difference we found is that the app icon on the google go has a red “go” badge at the bottom. The app, however, is visually identical to its normal counter-part which is available for ages.

It’s worth noting that the Google Meet has not been integrated into the Google Meet as it is in the normal Gmail app. No layering is provided in the Gmail Go, and it also has no shadow. Instead, the Gmail Go uses a white outline for its search field, and an elongated compose FAB, that will shrink into a circle as the users scroll.

The new Gmail Go has been presumably optimized for the performance of the devices with a limited processor and RAM.

The list of Go family apps available on the play store includes Google Go, Gallery Go, Google Maps Go, and Navigation Go. Along with Assistant Go and YouTube Go though these two are only supported for limited devices.

The inclusion of Gmail Go was not a necessary update. However, it is good to see google offering choices for its users.

CSK coach Stephen Fleming frustrated by the team’s performance says it is an ‘ageing’ team

IPL 2020 is almost halfway through and the points table is as dramatic as it can get. The teams who entered the tournament as heavy favourites have struggled and one of them is the three-times champion, Chennai Super Kings.

Super Kings have surprisingly lost five of their seven matches! It is safe to say that CSK is in amidst of a do or die situation. They will have to win six of their remaining seven matches or at least five with a healthy run-rate and wait for the cards to fall in the right places. Super Kings have always qualified for the playoffs in their 12-year history of the IPL. Clearly, there’s a strong chance of this particular streak being ended.

CSK has been facing some troubles even before the tournament had started. The COVID-19 pandemic tailored the CSK camp as 13 of their staff including two players were tested positive. This unfortunate incident was followed by two of their veterans Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh withdrawing from the tournament.

Coach Stephen Fleming clearly frustrated!

However, despite having some really good alternative options, the side is clearly struggling. Frustrated head coach Stephen Fleming opened about the issues holding the franchise back.

“If we don’t get a good start at the top with our two overseas players, we’re falling into a hole. So we’re looking for positive solutions. What I’d like is a little bit more intensity through the middle overs. We’ve got plenty of batting, and while we’re recovering pretty well, we are just ending up with too much to do at the back”, he said at a press conference.

Fleming also agreed with the fact that the side is an ageing team with the highest average age of 30.5 years among all the IPL teams.

“If you look at a couple of other factors, this one is an ageing team. Also, the conditions…the spinners at this stage are playing a small role but still not playing the substantial role we are used to. We are looking for ways to compete and change the style of play, given we have been so consistent with our selections. We are certainly scrapping…trying to find a way, it is a bit foreign and the results are showing,” Fleming admitted.

CSK should have an eye on the ‘Mid-season transfer‘ which will allow them to have players from other teams, provided they should have not played more than two matches for their current team. Commentator Harsha Bhogle suggested CSK should target Delhi Capitals’ Ajinkya Rahane. They can also consider players like Chris Lynn, Tom Banton, Saurabh Tiwary, etc.
