Maradona’s Hand of God shirt up for auction

0

The Hand of God goal is one of the most iconic goals in the history of football. Diego Maradona’s legendary performance in the quarter-finals against England is till date heralded as one of the best outings of his career.

Only days removed from the passing of the legendary player, the shirt in which he scored the infamous Hand of God goal is expected to go up for auction.

The shirt was handed to former England international Steve Hodge by Diego Maradona himself. He is closely tied to the legendary moment itself, as it was his back pass that led to the goal being scored off the hand of the Argentina captain.

“I was walking down the tunnel and Maradona was coming in the opposite direction. I just tugged my shirt and we swapped there and then,” recalled Mr Hodge, who was delayed leaving the pitch due to a TV interview.

The shirt could fetch up to $2 million via auction, as reported by various sources.

“It’s very difficult to gauge (the value) with the ‘Hand Of God’ jersey, but I know the owner was looking for a $2 million [equivalent to €1.6m] private sale,” David Amerman of Goldin Auction in New Jersey told Reuters.

“It certainly could be a possibility, the values have jumped quite a bit in soccer.”

As mentioned before, the shirt is currently owned by Steve Hodge and is on display in the National Football Museum in Manchester.

The stance could be deemed insensitive by some, considering that the World Cup legend only recently passed away. Capitalising on Maradona’s demise financially by selling something worth so much sentimental value could have waited for later, however it is what it is.

Donating the shirt to the fan-operated Church of Maradona, or to the family could have been a more thoughtful act instead.

Jurgen Klopp furious in post-match interview over difficult schedule

0

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is considered to be one of the most cool-tempered managers in Europe. The German is more often than not seen smiling and is a happy-go-lucky character on most days.

However, the draw against Brighton was frustrating enough for Klopp to lose his composure in the post-match interview. The Reds had two goals written off for marginal offsides and conceded a late penalty to gift Brighton the equaliser.

Here is what went down between Jurgen Klopp and Des Kelly, who was tasked with the post-match interview.

Transcripts sourced by Mirror

Kelly: “You think the decisions were right, well Jordan Henderson said some of the Brighton players agreed that it wasn’t a penalty…

Klopp: “Yes but the ref… Look, you try to create again, on my cost, again, a headline, you do.

“Because that’s how it is, if I say now it was not, but the ref whistled it.

“Don’t look like this, you try, always, all the time, but I say today it was a penalty.

“But you are not happy with that answer, so what do you want to hear? Give the answers to yourself…”

Kelly: “Mo Salah didn’t look too happy to be coming off early, but I assume you’re planning ahead for that and what’s the information with James Milner?”

Klopp: “Yeah, the day when Mo Salah is smiling when he leaves the pitch something is really wrong, so I get it, 100 percent.

“The problem is he had COVID, was out for 10-12 days, trained once, played 60 minutes, three days later, played again.

“We just have to be careful, he doesn’t like it I know but that’s it.”

Kelly: “And James Milner? Hamstring is it?”

Klopp: “Oh yes. Congratulations.”

Kelly: “What, me personally?”

Klopp: “No, but you work for them.

“Hamstring, surprise. And they had injuries as well. Because a tough time, but ask Chris Wilder how we can avoid that.”

Kelly: “Well maybe you’re firing at the wrong target.”

Klopp: “Sorry?”

Kelly: “Well maybe you’re firing at the wrong target because we are broadcasters, we work within the Premier League rules and the Premier League makes the rules, so that’s the Premier League clubs. So shouldn’t you be working with the Premier League clubs, talking to the Chief Executives?”

Klopp: “I don’t know how often have to say it. YOU picked the 12:30 kick-off, you.

“Not you personally but you did it, didn’t you. Us on 12:30. Between now and December and New Year, there’s one more Wednesday and Saturday 12:30.”

Kelly: “Yes but when you say ‘you picked the 12:30’, the Premier League clubs chose that slot. There’s a reason that slot is there, it’s because it’s valuable for the Premier League.”

Klopp: “And I’ve said it now a couple of times, these are difficult times.

Kelly: “Indeed, I know they’re difficult times, the stadium is empty, of course they’re difficult times and the broadcasters are supportive of the games.”

Klopp: “And we have to try. If we play at 3 o’clock or 5:30 it’s exactly the same, it’s Saturday.”

Kelly: “Then that has different chief executives. Your chief executive should be going to the other chief executives and having that discussion. If you come down here and just have a go at the broadcaster, it doesn’t go anywhere. It’s not going to change anything.”

Klopp: “I’m not having a go at the broadcaster, I just say how it is. 12:30, after Wednesday, Saturday 12:30 is really, really dangerous for the players.”

This is not the first time that Klopp has hit out on the fact that the players are being put at risk. Having to put in such tremendous physical effort throughout the week leaves them in a very precarious position.

The Premier League must take a look at this and find a way to put the player welfare first, if the teams are to be able to pull the numbers together for the matches.

Madrid NEED Hazard to step up: Now more than ever

0

It’s been over a year since Eden Hazard made an ambitious move to his ‘dream club’, Real Madrid. Considering the standards that the Belgian set for himself during his successful tenure at Chelsea, the 19/20 season has been a series of underwhelming performances from the winger.

Real Madrid’s season was not impacted much, though. Los Blancos managed to clinch their 34th league title without much help from Hazard.

While the player can be blamed for coming in overweight to Real Madrid during his first season, his body has not favoured him like it did at Chelsea.

A series of injuries halted Hazard’s progress in the white shirt, and it has since been the same story repeated throughout last season.

Ankle issues plagued Hazard, with the winger struggling for game time. Even when he did make the lineup, Hazard did not play all 90 minutes on a lot of occasions.

While the stumbling block last year could be explained away by the player needing time to adapt, something has to give in favour of Hazard this season.

Madrid spent €160 million on the Chelsea superstar last summer and will be hoping to see performances much like those in England.

Atletico Madrid have started the season extremely strong and are considered the favourites to win the title this year. Madrid have not been at their best and are lacking leadership upfront.

While Karim Benzema is a class act on his day, the Frenchman is currently out injured and cannot do it all by himself every single matchday. Especially considering the hectic schedule of the current season.

The Madrid number 7 managed to get on the scoresheet from the spot to score his first Champions League goal in three years. The strike will no doubt provide Hazard with some well-needed confidence to get back to his best on the pitch for his dream club.

Snapdragon 775G and 875 outperform their predecessors in AnTuTu benchmark

0

We all that currently, the title of the fastest mobile processor is held by Apple’s A14 Bionic, with its A13 Bionic holding second place. Qualcomm, the world’s largest manufacturer of chipsets, also has its processors in the top 5. The companies Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765G are powerful chipsets in their own right, but according to sources, the upcoming processors from Qualcomm will some huge performance leaps over their predecessors. The Snapdragon 875 and Snapdragon 775G prototype platforms have already been benchmarked in AnTuTu, and the results are revealing amazing insight into their performance.

The Snapdragon 775G-based platform managed 530,000 points in AnTuTu v8 and has crossed the Snapdragon 765G with huge leaps in performance. The Snapdragon 765G had earlier scored an average of 316,534 points with a maximum of 332,074 points in the benchmark. Thus, the score obtained by Snapdragon 775G indicates that the chipset outperforms its predecessor by around 60%. Interestingly, the score of 530,000 points puts the Snapdragon 775G only 8% behind the Snapdragon 865.

While the Snapdragon 775G performance is impressive, sources claim that the Snapdragon 875-based platform managed to outperform everyone in the benchmark. The Snapdragon 875 managed a score of about 740,000 points. The score obtained by the Snapdragon 875 indicates that it has a 28% lead over the Snapdragon 865.

By Qualcomm’s announcement, the Snapdragon 875 will be showcased in its 2020 tech summit in December. But unfortunately, for Snapdragon 775G, not much has been made clear about its future. We know that the chipset will support up to 120 Hz displays, 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage. As to when the chipset will be announced or which devices will carry it remains a mystery.

Barcelona see a turnaround in financial chaos following successful pay-cut negotiations

0

Barcelona have managed to achieve a breakthrough in talks to implement a wage reduction among their players. The Catalonian club has managed to negotiate a €122 million reduction in the wage bill, as Barcelona have confirmed themselves.

The 5-time Champions League winners currently pay out a sum of money in excess of €230 million every single season. The departures of Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal managed to cut down the expenditures a little bit.

However, that did not prove to be enough, especially considering that the club’s debt had doubled since 2019. Barcelona currently owe €488 million in total and will have to first gather funds before investing any further.

2020 has proven to be the most tumultuous season in the history of Barcelona as a club. The sacking of Ernesto Valverde and that of his replacement, Quique Setien after only about half a season in charge was only the start of the difficult times.

The summer brought along the Messi transfer saga, and though the Argentine superstar stayed put at Barcelona, the problems were not over just yet.

A no confidence motion was passed against President Josep Maria Bartomeu. He was further accused of corruption and was considered one of the prime reasons for Barcelona’s mismanagement.

Bartomeu eventually resigned, but the crisis still exists at Barcelona. There were talks earlier this month of the club heading towards bankruptcy and plunging deeper into chaos than ever before. However, those rumours have subsided since.

The reduction in the wage bill after months of negotiations could finally bring a turn of fortune for the club.

The club recently agreed new contracts for Marc Andre Ter-Stegen, Clement Lenglet, Gerard Pique and Frenkie de Jong. The four players prematurely agreed on a pay reduction in the short term and will be reimbursed by the club when the financial situation improves.

Dani Ceballos hails the impact of Mikel Arteta on Arsenal

0

Spain midfielder Dani Ceballos is on loan from Real Madrid for the second successive season at Arsenal. He didn’t get enough minutes under Zidane so he moved to the London side to get more playtime.

He has been at Arsenal since the start of the 2018-19 season. He has played under Unai Emery and interim manager Freddie Ljungberg. He is now playing under Mikel Arteta, who quit his job as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City to become the permanent replacement for Unai Emery at the Emirates in December 2019.

via Arsenal’s twitter

Ceballos has praised current manager Arteta for bringing the dead Arsenal back.

According to a report by The Sun, Ceballos told SunSport: “The team was almost dead – but after Arteta’s arrival we won the FA Cup and the Community Shield.”

“It’s not even a year since he arrived and he has given a radical change to the club. He’s the soul of the club and he’s lucky that the players trust him 100 per cent. Arsenal need him, in part because he takes the initiative most of the time.”

He further said: “Arsenal have to fight to be in the top four. But before there were five teams fighting to get into the Champions League, now there are six or seven.”

“You just have to look at Manchester City, one of the best teams in England, or Manchester United. They are not up at the top of the table. Southampton and Aston Villa, who last year struggled not to be relegated, have surprised everyone.”

“It is a tremendously competitive league, anyone can beat anyone. But our moment will come.”

Samsung teases a trifold Display foldable phone, a future flagship incoming

0

Smartphone manufacturers have slightly shifted their vision from regular smartphones to the premium folding or flip smartphone and in the front of that, there is a South-Korean tech-giant, Samsung. Samsung has recently launched its Galaxy Z Fold 2 and earlier that the company had introduced the Galaxy Z Flip. Recently, the Samsung Display section has provided a slight hint of its future foldable smartphone designs. Let’s check out what are those.

As per the recent sneak peek from Samsung Display, Samsung is reportedly working on a future foldable smartphone having a Z-style folding mechanism. This mechanism shows that we can fold or unfold this smartphone into three parts. So, it is basically a trifold smartphone. The left third section of the display folds inwards and onto the front of the center third. Quite obviously, the right third of the display can fold backward. So, allover these foldings make this a compact trifold smartphone.

So, the user can experience a much larger display in this device than that of the other regular folding smartphones. In short, you can use it as a normal smartphone otherwise a compact-sized tablet. Now let’s about the most important part of a folding smartphone, its durability, and lifespan. In a trifold smartphone, durability becomes more important than the other folded smartphones as it will have to face more folding and unfolding for its three-sectioned display.

Samsung is working hard on the durability and the lifespan of this future smartphone hasn’t shared anything about it yet. Looking at the designs and all stuff this future device will definitely carry a much higher price tag. So, Samsung has to take care of its mechanism as the user can use this kind of high-range device for a comparatively long time.
