Neymar’s new contract with PSG to be announced in the coming weeks

0

After months of speculation and discussion, the announcement of Neymar’s new contract is imminent. Only the last details are in discussion between the two parties right now. The Brazilian’s salary will be similar to what he has now. The big part remains fixed while bonuses will change based on trophies, goals and achieving other variables.

It is only a matter of time before the deal is announced. He is happy with Leonardo and Pochettino and the summer transfer window could see his former teammate and friend Lionel Messi could arrive at PSG too. He is very happy with the club and sees himself as a part of the future of the French Champions.

Neymar is currently ruled out injured, and will most probably miss the second leg of Barcelona vs PSG too, having been confirmed to be out for the first leg. The signing of the new contract will effectively put an end to all the speculation ever linking Neymar back to Barcelona or any other club in the world.

The 29-year-old has been a part of the PSG squad since making a world record move from Barcelona in August of 2017, and will no doubt be trying his hardest to return to full fitness to face Leo Messi and Barcelona on the pitch again.

Borussia Dortmund set to sell Sancho and keep Haaland next summer

Borussia Dortmund have to sell either one of Sancho or Haaland during the summer transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio on the Here We Go podcast on Patreon. If they won’t qualify for the Champions League next season, then they will surely have to let go of one of their prized assets.

Jason Sancho is more likely to leave the club because Manchester United were so close to signing him during the 2020 summer transfer window, and the Red Devils will potentially return to complete the task that they set out to do.

The asking price will be an interesting metric to watch since Sancho’s performances have dropped and Borussia Dortmund still maintain that it’s the same €120 million marks, but it could be one to watch out.

Many rumours about Haaland leaving the club at the end of the season have been doing the rounds, but he is happy at Dortmund. If they don’t qualify for the Champions League, though, things could change. The main target for Dortmund is keeping Haaland.

The striker does indeed have a release clause in his contract, but it comes into effect from 2022. And that is when clubs all across the continent are expected to line up to sign the player.

Dortmund currently find themselves in 6th place, with 32 points from 20 games, 16 points behind league leaders Bayern Munich and 4 away from Eintracht Frankfurt in 4th. The Schwarzgelben next host Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

TSMC will pay $145/day for 3nm chip plants to builders who are willing to give up their holiday

0

The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is aiming for a new fabrication facility in Tainan, Taiwan. After completion, this facility will be the most advanced chip manufacturing plant globally as it will make chips through what TSMC markets as the 3nm process node.

TSMC is motivating its construction workers to work during the Lunar New Year holiday to speed up the construction. The Nikkei Asian Review has revealed that the chipmaker has informed its construction companies to pay double the hourly rate to workers who are available to work during the holidays and will work after taking only two days off.

According to an industry executive, “We received a notice from TSMC that it is giving 4,000 New Taiwan dollars ($145) a day as a bonus for every worker willing to come during the Lunar New Year… that is literally at least double the average daily wage for front line workers.”

TSMC's 5nm process nodes to pick up pace in 2021

The details shared by The Nikkei suggests that TSMC is also working aggressively to increase its production capacity of 5nm. Especially, the fab is rumoured to be targeting a 70% production increase by the end of this year.

In addition to demand from both AMD and Apple, automakers are also trying to shift towards the leading-edge chip manufacturing process for their products. Socionext, a Japanese auto chip maker recently revealed its plans of a 5nm product expected to begin sampling in the second half of next year.

Recently TSMC is rumoured to be arranging a Super Hot Production run to ease the ongoing shortage of auto chips. The decision came after the Western Governments stepped in and asked Taiwanese officials to help facilitate this crisis. It led to an information-technology agreement sponsored by the World Trade Organization (WTO) by the U.S. chip companies to reduce the chip tariffs.

Al Boum Photo Can Become Steeplechase Great with Gold Cup Treble

0

Across the world, the global sport of horse racing has its great events. Among the most prestigious of those over jumps is the Cheltenham Gold Cup – a race won Al Boum Photo in each of the last two years.

In its storied history going back almost 100 years, just eight horses have tasted victory more than once. Irish-trained Al Boum Photo is already among them, but there’s an even more exclusive club he bids to join this time.

Only four steeplechasers have won the Gold Cup in three consecutive years before: the outstanding Golden Miller of the 1930s, Cottage Rake during the early postwar period, Arkle in the mid-1960s, and Best Mate between 2002 and 2004. A who’s who of National Hunt horse racing down the decades.

While turning up at Cheltenham year after year looks like a big ask on paper, Al Boum Photo’s Gold Cup ante-post odds have him a clear favorite for a successful treble. It’s a rare feat, but not impossible and the market sides with him to do it.

There’s an old saying in England about waiting for buses, then two or three come along at once. It applies to Al Boum Photo’s trainer, Willie Mullins, who had been trying his entire career to saddle a Gold Cup winner.

He sent out six horses who finished second after first hitting the frame with a third-place back in 1999. Stable favorites like Florida Pearl; Hedgehunter, who won the world-famous Grand National at Aintree; and Djakadam were among those to try and come up short.

It took a master trainer like Mullins 20 years to crack the Gold Cup, then Al Boum Photo backed up his breakthrough 2019 success by repeating it last year. The unique way in which this horse prepares for Cheltenham is unorthodox but effective.

Over the years, several key trials in both England and Ireland have developed. Some are valuable races in their own right, such as the King George VI Chase, Savills Chase, and Irish Gold Cup.

Rather than send Al Boum Photo to the established program for three-mile steeplechasers, Mullins has instead run him at a low-key track, Tramore, on New Year’s Day. It is a tight, clockwise course and configured completely different to Cheltenham, yet running there works for this horse.

Mullins keeping Al Boum Photo lightly-raced, so there is plenty left in his tank for the Gold Cup, is a perfectly logical approach. Horse racing fans don’t see much of him in the course of the jumps season, but that might be the key to both longevity and success.

Last year’s Gold Cup form is not particularly strong. Only horses that finished way down the field in seventh and ninth have won races since, so there is every reason to believe that Al Boum Photo can beat his old rivals once again.

A few new opponents are lining up against him, but they have it to prove. Al Boum Photo could well be a triple Cheltenham Gold Cup winner come Friday, March 19.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700G APU engineering sample sold on Ebay for $499

0

Quite expectedly, AMD’s upcoming Cezanne APU is now being sold on eBay after making a series of appearance last month. This gave us a false assumption that AMD could launch its Cezanne APUs for desktops at CES 2021 but that didn’t happen.

The exact APU was spotted last month with OPN code of 100-000000263, featuring 8 cores and 16 threads along with 4.4 GHz boost clock speeds. The Cezanne APU for laptops have already been launched, so Ryzen 5000 series APUs for desktop processors is already a possibility.

The seller that posted the APU on eBay has mentioned that GPU drivers for the integrated Radeon Vega graphics were originally not available but it is reported that drivers have become available to the seller, so anyone buying it will be able to use it.

Another interesting fact is that the seller posted the same CPU-Z screenshot that was leaked last month, confirming the fact that the Ryzen 7 5700G is real with the same OPN code. The seller even claims that the data is from his own buyers, which confirms that the same source has leaked the APU earlier.

With so much progress in February itself, most probably we could see AMD launched the Ryzen 5000 series APUs, however, whether it will be available for normal consumers also remains the main question.

Rugby Africa announces the establishment of Referee Committee

Rugby Africa announces yet another major development for the sport on the continent with the formation of the RA Referee Committee

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, February 11, 2021/ — The Rugby Africa (RA) Referee Committee, formally launched at its inaugural meeting in December, was founded to – amongst others – establish an African referee panel, monitor its growth and development, further the development of African match officials and monitor the Laws of the Game and playing trends on the continent.

“The Referee Committee is the culmination of close to 10 years of work that RA has done to develop a panel, with the first month-long referee camps held in Stellenbosch in 2013. Thanks to our dedicated partnerships with SARU and the FFR to fast track and promote our referees, this official commission goes one step further in structuring our efforts and to professionalise our competitions management,” explains Nasser Bougja, RA Executive member.

The Committee comprises six panel members: four drawn from the RA Executive Committee, including RA Referee Manager Mudiwa Mundawarara, RA Unstoppable Ambassador Peris Mukoko and Clement Sinkamba, President of Zambia Rugby Union. Completing the panel is Eugene de Villiers and Salem Attalah, representing one referee performance consultant each from the South African Rugby Union (SARU) and the French Federation of Rugby (FFR), respectively.

The Committee will not only focus on panel referees, but also place emphasis on advancing women referees – thus developing a network of referee coaches in core countries that act as a feeder system into the Rugby Africa panels.

To this end, Rugby Africa has co-opted distinguished Kenyan referee Peris Mukoko, a RA Unstoppable Ambassador, as their first interim Referee representative. “Peris has a passion for refereeing and brings two perspectives to the Committee: the referees’ perspective and the women’s perspective,” notes panel member and RA Referee Manager Mudiwa Mundawarara.

Mukoko, a former player turned referee, has notched a long list of accolades. A certified World Rugby Educator and Match Officials Coach, she is also a RA Women in Rugby Network Committee Member, and has been an active Level 2 Rugby Referee since 2008.  As Kenya’s first female referee, Mukoko also serves on the Board of the Kenya Rugby Union and, in 2014, was nominated by Confederation of African Rugby as one of the three leading Women Referees in Africa.

“I am humbled by the nomination and excited to get an opportunity to continue to serve the game in another capacity, plus an amazing chance to interact with referees from different unions across Africa. I look forward to learning from and partnering with the committee members in advancing the quality of referring standards across the continent,” enthuses Mukoko.

Future Growth

With distinctly different backgrounds and a complementary vision of strengthening the development of arbitration in Africa, the panel is committed to enhancing referee profiles on the continent.

“Rugby in Africa is progressing at great speed. The coaches have more knowledge about the game and the organisation of it, the players are stronger and have an optimal technical preparation, the leaders better organised, trained, and ambitious, the refereeing and the referees also have their place in this project of a continent that wants to take up the challenge,” says Salem Attalah, representative for French Federation Rugby (FFR).

Though the Covid-19 pandemic has severely impacted the sporting calendar, Rugby Africa has been active in its educational and developmental activities, holding virtual training sessions and numerous online workshops and courses with World Rugby and in partnership with SARU and FFR. These are set to continue this year, with an even greater focus on the development of the RA talent pool, and the continued development of women in rugby.

“The establishment of the Rugby Africa Referee Committee marks a significant step in enhancing the quality of refereeing on the African continent and assisting in the development of new and exciting talent that could feed into the structures in future,” said Jurie Roux, SA Rugby CEO and Secretary of Rugby Africa. “Referees play a vital role in the game of rugby union, and SARU is proud to participate in this initiative and assist in raising the profile of referees in Africa.”

NBA orders playing of national anthem even after Mavs owner Mark Cuban ordered a stop

0

On Wednesday, the NBA released a statement declaring that all teams will be required to play the National Anthem before games as fans are welcomed back into arenas across the country amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

NBA Chief Communications Officer Mike Bass said in a statement, “With NBA teams now in process of welcoming fans back into their arenas, all teams will play the national anthem in keeping with longstanding league policy.” This move comes right after the news that the Dallas Mavericks stopped playing the anthem this season.

Of the move, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said, “It was my decision, and I made it in November.” Per Shams Charania of The Athletic, a source close to Cuban said that the decision to not play the national anthem before games was not because the franchise lacks love for the United States of America, but rather because many in the organization feel that the anthem “doesn’t represent them”.

“We respect and always have respected the passion people have for the anthem and our country,” said Cuban, in a statement. “I have always stood for the anthem with the hand over my heart — no matter where I hear it played. But we also hear the voices of those who do not feel the anthem represents them. We feel they also need to be respected and heard, because they have not been heard. The hope is that those who feel passionate about the anthem being played will be just as passionate in listening to those who do not feel it represents them.”

So far, The Dallas Mavericks has hosted 12 regular-season games during the 2020-21 season, along with one preseason game, and the team did not play the anthem before any of the games.

NBA rules require players to stand during the national anthem, but Commissioner Adam Silver has not enforced it, especially as kneeling during the anthem became a popular form of silent protest over the past several years, per ESPN.
