Referee’s racist comments suspend PSG vs Istanbul Basaksehir; the match will be played tonight

0

In what was a rather poor advertisement for the improvement of racist abuse in football, the Champion’s League game between PSG and Istanbul Basaksehir was abandoned. The main reason for this is the chaos that broke out early in the game followed by an alleged racist comment by the assistant referee along the touchline.

Sebastian Coltescu is the referee charged with uttering a racist slur during the heated row near the benches. Istanbul’s assistant coach, Pierre Webo was shown a straight red for causing the chaos, but Webo himself confirmed that there was the issue of racist abuse that had taken place during the heated row.

Apparently, Coltescu’s words, when translated in English equate to: “The black one over there. This is not possible. Go and identify him. That guy, the black one.”

Basaksehir’s striker Demba Ba, among the substitutes for the away side, could be clearly heard on television remonstrating with the official, saying in English: “When you mention a white guy, you never say ‘this white guy’, you just say ‘this guy’, so why when you mention a black guy do you say ‘this black guy?'”

“The fourth official used the word ‘negro’ in front of everybody. If the fourth official is removed from the pitch, then we will restart,” Göksel Gümüsdag, the President of Istanbul Basaksehir told Turkish television channel TRT Spor.

The match was understood to be restarted after both the players decided to abandon it, but the demands from the players were that the match would not be played if Coltescu was on the pitch. There were no reserve officials for the match, with two refs required for overlooking the VAR.

Hence, the remainder of the match will be played out today, with the game resuming from around the 14th minute. Kick-off is understood to be at 18:55 UK, or 23:25 in India.

UEFA have announced that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the matter and that the referee will not be assumed guilty on the basis of allegations alone. Should Coltescu be found guilty of racial abuse, he could be facing a ten-match ban from officiating.

T. Natarajan: Who dared to dream!

0

The Tamil Nadu lad, T. Natarajan is currently at the peak of his career with the success of IPL and his dream ODI debut against Australia.

In the IPL Natarajan took many important wickets for the team when needed the most, with an admirable tally of 16 wickets in 16 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad. This instantly brought him into the limelight and eyes of the selectors for the upcoming tour of Australia.

Later on, Natarajan was selected for the tour of Australia as an additional bowler along with Kartik Tyagi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti but soon was called up as a replacement for Varun Chakravarthy in the squad for T20Is but got his early chance to perform in the third ODI in the series because Shami was given rest.

Even at the end of the three-match T20I series against Australia, which India won, Hardik Pandya, the Man of the Series in a sweet gesture dedicated it to Natarajan and also said that he was outstanding.

Natarajan belongs from a humble background, who has seen struggle most of his life. His father, a handloom weaver and his mother, a roadside chicken shop owner. Belonging from a poor background sometimes there were situations when there was no food in the home, said Natarajan in an interview. Even due to the lack of infrastructure in his village, it was hard to find cricket equipment, for two years he ran barefoot.

Natarajan who is known for his good and lethal yorkers practised a lot with a tennis ball and later on after learning with a cricket ball, he debuted for Tamil Nadu in Ranji but was reported for suspect action when he hit a roadblock. After that, he took a year off to improvise but was a hard year for him as he couldn’t play cricket.

Eventually, after improvisation in his action, he found success in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. In the season 2016, he took 10 wickets in 7 games and also bowled six consecutive yorkers in a super over. After his impressive performance in TNPL, he had a good Ranji season. Eventually, it led to a bid of Rs 3 crore from Kings XI Punjab in 2017. But with an average performance, he was released by KXIP and was again brought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 40 Lacs next season, though he did not play in 2018 and 2019 season, but he kept improving and working on developing an inswinger and strengthening his body to bowl quicker. But in IPL 2020 he won his captain’s trust, a season which changed his life.

Natarajan didn’t stop dreaming even during his bad days and kept working hard for his dream and finally, he fulfilled it. It is true that hard work always pays off!

India adopts AI Solutions amid Covid-19: Report

0

Another one of the Covid-19 impacts now includes organizations in India, increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) as a business strategy to grow and overcome the challenges brought on by the pandemic.

According to a report published on Wednesday by PWC India, the use of AI in India showed a 45% increase, the highest among all countries. In comparison, the US recorded s 35% rise, UK 23%, and Japan 28% after the virus outbreak. It also reported that 94% of the organizations now believe that AI will help create more opportunities instead of being a threat to their industry.

The report also states that around 70% of enterprises surveyed by PWC India adopted AI compared to around 62% last year. However, when it comes to scaling up AI across the organization, India still lags behind global firms, with only 5% doing so compared to 25%around the world.

According to the report, the growing AI adoption is due to the shift in buying behavior and new business challenges. For instance, during this social-distancing era, AI-enabled use cases like contactless sales and delivery have gained traction. AI solutions are also being used to enforce best practices and make the workplace safer.

Organizations are now using AI in various manners to help their businesses grow by using AI-based predictive and prescriptive tools to make sense of current data and using AI-based digital twins to build resilient supply-chain and operations and avoid business disruption.

As compared to challenges faced in 2019, which were more technical and were limited to the inability to explain the model and lack of good quality data, the challenges in 2020 revolve around measuring the business value of AI implementations.

“The far-reaching consequences of a global pandemic have driven organizations to balance the competing priorities of safeguarding the health and ensuring business continuity. AI is now regarded as a key enabler for organizations to repair (emerge from the present crisis), rethink (transformation plan) and reconfigure,” Sudipta Ghosh, Partner, and Leader- Data and Analytics, PwC India said in a statement, according to LiveMint.

Further, the report also highlighted that sectors with the highest disruptions caused by Covid-19 adopted AI solutions in a more definitive manner. In the travel and hospitality sector, 89% of firms have implemented AI in some form to look at solutions to reconfigure business processes and offer contactless experiences. Other sectors where AI adoption has been higher included telecom, medicine, and tech with 86% adoption, financial services with 82%, and pharma with 73%.

Uber Sells its Flying Taxi Unit to Startup Joby Aviation

0

American company Uber Technologies Inc. is selling off its flying taxi division called Uber Elevate to Joby Aviation and investing in the startup, an American venture-backed aerospace company. This makes it twice in the same week that Uber has abandoned a side project as it aims to turn a quarterly profit next year.

Uber Elevate, which will be acquired by Joby Aviation, was Uber’s division that imagined a future where air taxis shuttled people above traffic-jammed highways. Uber Elevate also operated a helicopter service in New York City, but it suspended flights during the pandemic. As part of the agreement between the companies, Uber is investing $75 million in Joby, after a previously undisclosed amount of $50 million investment in the startup in January.

Uber Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi has been using this strategy this year as the company parts ways from its science fiction-type ambitions and focuses on making money. The Joby-Elevate deal strikes a similarity with two other Uber deals this year. In May, Uber led a $170 million funding round in micro-mobility startup Lime, and the startup acquired Uber’s micro-mobility subsidiary Jump. Also, earlier this week, Aurora Innovation, an autonomous vehicle startup, reached an agreement with Uber Technologies Inc. to buy the ride-hailing firm’s self-driving unit in a compound deal that will value the combination of the company at $10 billion.

Uber reported deepening losses in the third quarter in November, following which Khosrowshahi attempted to make the investors believe that the company has a path to making money, even as the coronavirus pandemic has hammered revenue. Uber has set its sights on delivering a quarterly adjusted profit by the end of next year.

Uber’s deal with Joby brings the total money raised by the startup to $820 million while California-based Joby’s investors include Toyota Motor Corp., which invested $394 million in the startup earlier this year; the venture capital arms of JetBlue Airways Corp. and Intel Corp., and Capricorn Investment Group. Joby Aviation was valued at $2.6 billion by investors earlier this year.

The Joby-Elevate deal is expected to close in early 2021; the two parent companies have worked out a way to integrate their respective services into each other’s apps.

“Advanced air mobility has the potential to be exponentially positive for the environment and future generations,” Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said in a statement according to TechCrunch. “This deal allows us to deepen our partnership with Joby, the clear leader in this field, to accelerate the path to market for these technologies.”

While Joby is considered one of the leaders, CEO JoeBen Bevirt has admitted that Elevate played a role in shaping the nascent industry, including establishing some of the competitors’ benchmarks.

“The team at Uber Elevate has not only played an important role in our industry, but they have also developed a remarkable set of software tools that build on more than a decade of experience enabling on-demand mobility,” he said in a statement.” These tools and new team members will be invaluable to us as we accelerate our plans for commercial launch.”

The company has given information about its all-electric vehicle to fit four passengers and a pilot and fly up to 150 miles on a single charge. Its preliminary version of the vehicle looks like a cross between a helicopter and a drone.

HP EliteBook 830 G8 and 840 G8 upgraded to Intel’s Tiger Lake platform

0

HP has been upgraded its already existing notebooks to meet Intel’s Evo platform criteria. Recently, the company’s HP EliteBook 830 G8 and EliteBook 840 G8 both received a host of new specs that came with its adoption of intel’s 11th gen processors—expected to start its sale at the end of this month, Intel Tiger Lake CPUs power the products.

Both the 830 G8 and 840 G8 will be powered by Core i5  and Core i7 variants. The highest performance SKU will be the Core i7-1165G7 processor. The devices will be powered using 64 Gb of DDR4 RAM and will run at 3,200MHz of clock speed. For storage, the manufacturer offers 2TB of NVMe SSD storage.  On the graphics end, HP relies only on Intel Xe GPU, a standard for Tiger Lake CPUs. It is a bit disappointing that HP is not offering a dedicated graphics card.

In terms of specifications, both the notebooks are equally matched. But the only decidable difference which the notebooks exhibit is the difference in their screen size. The HP EliteBook 830 G8 comes with a 13.1-inch FHD IPS LCD panel, whereas the HP EliteBook 840 G8 sports a larger 14-inch screen size. But that’s where the differences end, as both the models even portray the same refresh rate and resolution.

Ports offered on the HP EliteBook 830 G8, and EliteBook 840 G8 include:

  • Two Thunderbolt 4.0 ports
  • Two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports HDMI 2.0 port
  • one combo audio jack
  • nano-SIM card slot

OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei is now working on launching his own audio startup

0

Carl Pei, the Co-Founder of OnePlus did abruptly resign the company which he built from scratch with Pete Lau. It did seem that a visionary person like him would not be sitting idle and will soon start his own project.

He has signed up none other than Tony Fadell, who was the principal at advisory firm Future Shape as well as the inventor of the iPod, to be a seed investor on his new career move. Also, Carl Pei has announced that he has successfully raised 7 million US Dollars to start his new audio startup.

Among the big names, he has YouTuber Casey Neistat, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, CEO of Reddit Steve Huffman, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin, Product Hunt CEO Josh Buckley, Web Summit founder Paddy Cosgrave, and PCH CEO Liam Casey.

OnePlus Co-Founder Carl Pei is now working on launching his own audio startup

Obviously, this will be a challenging venture based around audio and related technology. Although no name has been heard or decided, however, speculations surround that the first product could be coming in next year and Pei has also stated his company will have a broader focus rather than jut making hearables.

Carl has recently spoken to Wired and told what he did after leaving OnePlus, “I imagined some sort of dream holiday in very fancy places, you know, but you basically get bored out your mind. I felt really bad and restless, and I just needed to get to work.”

“I went back to Sweden, where there’s a great startup community – a lot of good techs unicorn companies. I started catching up with a few friends, and they kept introducing me to other people, so very quickly, I got to know the community, and I had a lot of questions about how to start a company. London’s a good place; it’s got a lot of good talent, especially within the fields of design and user experience.”

We hope Carl is successful in his next venture, and he can disrupt the ever-growing audio market, which has become stagnant in terms of uniqueness.

UBI Research: Smartphone OLED prices to fall due to oversupply and fallen demand

Coronavirus has had a huge impact on every business. No sector is left untouched from the impacts of Covid 19. The smartphone market is no different. One of the UBI research reports says that the prices of OLED panels will soon fall due to extreme oversupply. According to the analysts, there are two major reasons behind this prediction of the fall in OLED prices. Firstly, the coronavirus pandemic and secondly, the sanctions levied by the United States of America against Huawei.

The Covid-19 lockdown and less disposable income with the customers led to the fall in the demand for OLED panels. The global smartphone market saw a slowdown like never before. The data states that there was a 17.9% downfall in the OLED displays shipments in the third quarter of 2020 when compared with the same period last year. A total of 113 million smartphones with OLED displays were shipped in Q3FY20.

The UBI Research CEO Choong Hoon Yi expects that the market will follow a similar trend in the fourth quarter of this year. That means another quarter where the demand for OLED panels will continue to fall. As smartphones are still being manufactured at the same pace, lesser demand and more supply will only decrease the prices further.

Coming to the second reason, Huawei’s smartphone business is in continuous decline since last year. In the second quarter of this year, they shipped around 53.4% of the total OLED smartphones in China. Huawei’s competitors like Oppo (18.6%) Xiaomi (14.8%) and Vivo (8.3%) account for a lesser share percentage even if we combine the three against Huawei. But the market estimates that the Chinese tech giant is only expected to ship 50 million smartphones in 2021. This means that their dominance in the OLED market is bound to falter.

On the other side, Apple has thought of including OLED panels in its latest iPhone lineup. Currently, around 50% of the iPhones are said to use OLED panels. This will increase to 75% and then to 100% in 2021 and 2022 respectively. The brand Apple has been gaining the market due to its featured products and positive brand image.

History is made as Juventus beat Barcelona at Camp Nou for the first time in a decade

0

In what could possibly be the last time that we find Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on the same pitch, the former came away with the win. There was a lot of history made in Juventus’ 3-0 away victory against Barcelona at Camp Nou.

Arguably the most stunning and long-awaited of them all is Ronaldo’s brace against the Catalonians from the spot. While he scored plenty of them against the club during his time at Real Madrid (18), he scored against them in the top tier of Europe for the first time last night.

Juventus were very attacking right off the bat, swinging crosses from the wings from the full-backs, as well as midfielders finding Morata and Ronaldo through vertical passes up the pitch. Eventually, Barcelona conceded a rather soft penalty through youngster Ronald Araujo for bringing down Ronaldo in the 11th minute.

The Portuguese slotted the ball right down the middle to score against Barcelona in the UCL for the first time. He managed to beat Ter-Stegen twice as he smashed the ball down to the bottom left corner, sending the German the wrong way again later in the match. That was for a clear handball, given by VAR.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkZZziwrRRQ

However, the best moment of the match had to be Weston McKennie’s aerial volley to beat Ter-Stegen from about 7-8 yards out, following a beautifully chipped in ball by Juan Cuadrado, who has really been productive for the Old Lady this season.

The 3-0 defeat saw Barcelona lose at home in a Champions League group game for the first time in a decade, a record that is bound to have been cherished by the Culers. The Blaugrana themselves had plenty of chances to score, but their efforts were, as the scoreline says, unsuccessful.

Leo Messi put in a very good shift in terms of getting on the end of passes and creating chances, but could not beat 42-year-old Gigi Buffon, with most of his shots going right at the keeper.

Juventus’ victory sees them advance to the Round of 16 as the Group winners, and will be hoping for a favourable draw to kick off the knockout stages later in the campaign.
