AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su wins Fortune’s Businessperson of the Year 2020

0

AMD has changed or says transformed the stagnant PC industry with Ryzen processors, back from 2017. Since then their journey never ended and now in 2020, they have become the gaming champion with the Ryzen 5000 series of processors.

Not only for CPUs but also their discrete graphics card, they are now getting more praise than before and being adopted for business uses. AMD’s server business has skyrocketed from last year with their EPYC processors and Radeon Instinct GPUs.

AMD was the first to bring the concept of APUs and create great gaming SoCs that have today laid the foundation for the next-gen consoles. Also, their revolutionary Ryzen APUs have done quite well in the mobile lineup as well. Together, with so much to offer, AMD has indeed surprised every analyst this year, making record revenues each quarter.

Obviously, this wouldn’t be possible if the company would not be led by Dr. Lisa Su, who took the CEO position when it was sunk with debt in 2014. In recent years AMD has transformed the silicon industry and changed its fortune with a strong roadmap, and its gaining trust from various OEMs for its strong commitment.

For the first nine months of 2020, AMD’s revenue stands at $6,519 million. The results show that the company has nearly met last year’s figure with a full quarter to spare. But it also marked 31% year-over-year growth for the quarter.

AMD has even claimed that it predicts a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20% for the next five years. Indeed, Dr. Lisa Su deserves praise for such leadership that has changed the company’s luck forever! Rightfully, she has been awarded Fortune’s Businessperson of the Year 2020, and kudos to her from team TechnoSports.

LG to take a new approach to outsource lower-end smartphones to cut costs

0

LG, the South Korean multinational electronics company, has decided to bring a major change in its smartphone division. The reports flowing in suggests that they are ready to outsource lower-to-mid end smartphones. They are doing this reorganization to increase its efficiency and drive up the sales number which is really struggling for some years now. In fact, LG has reported operating losses reported for 22 consecutive quarters. That means, for the past five years, the company has failed to register an operating profit.

This downward trend has forced the management to wear their thinking caps and look for a new direction which has led them to the choice of Original Design Manufacturer (ODM). LG has a strong mobile division in the early 2010s. They were ranked No. 3 in the global smartphone market by Strategy Analytics in 2013. But it went downhill since 2015. Why? All due to the Chinese manufacturers who flood the market with their cheaper and effective handsets.

LG will be raising the smartphone production in India by 15 times

Chinese companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo took over the market by engaging in the price war. They underwent several marketing strategies to change people’s perception of Chinese mobiles. Earlier, people use to consider Chinese brands as someone who offers unreliable products. Now in 2020, it is they who are ruling the markets worldwide.

LG is planning to outsource the design and manufacture and sell the handsets under its brand name. Due to this, they have jettisoned some of its research and production members. They are also trying to fit other members according to the new business models. LG will use this new direction in their low-end and mid-end smartphones but will still rely on in-house research & development and production in their high-end smartphones.

Outsourcing will help them to reduce the cost and bring more efficiency. But, will that be enough? Can they ace the market with this new direction?

Activision lodging an appeal with lawsuits against Netflix for plundering executives

0

Activision, the COD publisher, is taking Netflix to court, claiming illegal and unethical behavior of the video streaming company for plundering executives. The former Activision CFO, Spencer Neumann, joined Netflix as the top finance executive after leaving the gaming company in 2018.

Activision said in the lawsuit, “Netflix unapologetically recruits talent without regard to its ethical and legal obligations. To shape its workforce to its desires, Netflix not only ruthlessly fires its own employees that it deems ‘adequate,’ but is engaged in a years-long campaign of unlawfully poaching executives from Netflix’s competitors regardless of their contractual obligations.”

Seeing Netflix’s actions, Activision has claimed that Netflix is overlooking California law, also the Labor Code. According to Activision, the video streaming company “knowingly induced Neumann to breach his employment contract with Activision.”

Activision said, “Making matters worse, Netflix engaged in its tortious conduct when Activision–with Neumann’s assistance–was negotiating with Netflix over a commercial partnership to distribute Activision’s linear media content. Netflix then proceeded to induce Neumann to breach his fiduciary obligations to Activision, thereby obtaining yet another an unfair and unethical advantage over Activision, one of Netflix’s competitors.”

The gaming company stated that the behavior with their executive was not an isolated occasion with adding, “Netflix has a demonstrated pattern of caring only about attracting and employing whoever Netflix wants, regardless of whether it violates the law along the way.”

Activision is finding a permanent solution for this Netflix issue with a warning, and the gaming company now wants to be paid compensatory damages, consequential damages, and punitive damages.

Finally it’s Ronaldo vs Messi time again!

0

When the Champions League groups draw was made, everyone was excited to see Barcelona and Juventus in the same group as this would mean the whole world can once again please their eyes by seeing Messi and Ronaldo on the same pitch again after 2 years.

Seeing Ronaldo and Messi on the same pitch had became a habit in the last decade as Ronaldo played for Real Madrid. But after he moved to Juventus in 2018, the duo hasn’t meet since then. Ronaldo has missed the first group fixture as well but he is now fit to take the field against Messi’s Barcelona at Camp Nou tonight.

Literally, the whole world will stop tonight at 1:30 am IST (9th December) to watch the reunion between two of the greatest players of football.

The debate about who’s better between Messi and Ronaldo will go on but the reality is it may be the last time we see the two GOATs on the same pitch tonight.

Here’s how twitter reacted to the Ronaldo and Messi reunion:

Intel might be secretly working on Tiger Lake desktop CPU

0

Intel has been pretty busy this year with the launch of its 11th generation Tiger Lake CPUs. With the introduction of its Evo platform, the company has raised the standards of its Tiger Lake notebooks that also offer support for PCIe 4th generation. But recently, Intel and PC manufacturer Dell has been pretty busy in implementing S0ix power-saving states into the Linux kernel.

According to sources, the S0ix states shut off parts of the Intel SoC, which are not in use. Reports indicate that Dell has recently added support for Tiger Lake desktop systems that have been tested on pre-released hardware.

“These Tiger Lake systems are not yet released but have been validated on pre-release hardware. This is being submitted separately from released hardware in case of regression between pre-release and release hardware, so this commit
can be reverted alone.”

But one thing worth observing is that for Dell to be working on S0ix for Tiger Lake desktop CPUs is pretty surprising. It is because to this day, we have never heard about there existing a desktop variant of intel’s Tiger Lake line-up. Until now, Intel only released its 11th Gen Core Tiger Lake-U series for low-power laptops. The company also confirmed that it would release the 11th Gen Rocket Lake-S desktop series.

But nowhere have we heard about there being an Intel Tiger Lake desktop series. We also know Intel is expected to launch its 11th Gen Tiger Lake-H series featuring higher TDP and more cores than Tiger Lake-U. It will be featured in high-end gaming laptops. But the unconfirmed hardware from Intel really has everyone confused.

With AMD revealing its cards soon, and is performing extremely in the gaming sector. Intel needs to up its game if it wants to retain its crown. A high-performing Tiger Lake CPU for gaming desktops might be the thing intel is looking for. If the rumors are true and intel is actually working on Tiger Lake desktop CPUs, then it is huge news for the semiconductor market.

Reliance Jio will pioneer the 5G Revolution in India in H2 2021: Mukesh Ambani

0

Mukesh Ambani has recently addressed in #IMC2020Virtual and stated the vision his company Reliance Jio has on India’s 5G network. Indeed, Reliance Jio has changed the face of India’s 4G infrastructure and supported the PM’s Digital India mission.

Jio believes that India will prove cynics wrong by becoming a $5 trillion economy with increased incomes, employment, and improved life quality. India has the historic opportunity to become the world’s preeminent DIGITAL SOCIETY with Ease of Living for all.

Mr. Ambani and his company Jio has presented four ideas for consideration:

  1. 300 million mobile subscribers in India are still trapped in the 2G era. Urgent policy steps are needed to ensure that these underprivileged people have an affordable smartphone. So, they can benefit from Direct Benefit Transfer into their bank accounts and actively participate in the Digital Economy.
  2. Policy steps are needed to accelerate the early rollout of 5G and make it affordable and available everywhere. JIO will pioneer the 5G Revolution in India in the second half of 2021. JIO’s 5G service will be a testimony to your inspiring vision of ATMA-NIRBHAR BHARAT.
  3. 5G will enable India to not only participate in the Fourth Industrial Revolution but also lead it. We are creating compelling home-grown solutions in Education, Healthcare, Agriculture, Infrastructure, Financial Services, and New Commerce. Once proven in India, each of these solutions will be offered to the rest of the world to address global challenges.
  4. India has developed world-class strengths in chip design and can become a major hub for the state-of-the-art semiconductor industry.

With its strong investments and partners, Reliance Jio aims to revolutionize India’s 5G network with its home-grown tech. With this announcement, we now have somewhat a clear idea of what and when we can expect Jio to start rolling out 5G across the country.

Already Jio and Qualcomm have merged on 5G to achieve over 1Gbps speed in Trials. If these kinds of speed can really be availed in India without any foreign tech then that would be a great achievement for Reliance Jio.

ISL 2020-21: SC East Bengal player Jacques Maghoma reflects about what went wrong in the previous matches and how can they make a comeback

Kolkata giants, East Bengal brought on new investors on board in the form of Shree Cement in order to play in the Indian Super League. East Bengal changed their name to SC East Bengal and made their debut in ISL this season.

The hopes were high on such a legendary club. Many thought they would take to ISL as a duck to water but unfortunately, it has been the opposite. They have lost their first 3 matches and the most shocking part is they are yet to score their first goal in ISL. They have the largest goal difference of 7 among all the clubs in the league and are currently languishing at the bottom of the table.

Former Birmingham City player Jacques Maghoma who joined SC East Bengal this season has now reflected on what went wrong for them in the previous matches.

Maghoma said while speaking to SC East Bengal media: “I just feel that you need to focus on the next game and see where and how you can improve. As a senior player, I have to figure out in what better way I can contribute to the team. Of course, it’s also important to keep the spirits in the camp high. No one wants to be on the losing side. We need to change the atmosphere not only for us but for the fans as well. We need to stop thinking about the past results. The next game is going to be massively important for us and we’ll have to avoid making errors both defensively and offensively.”

SC East Bengal suffered a 2-0 defeat against NorthEast United on Saturday. The match was full of controversies as SCEB were denied two clear penalties. Maghoma was brought down inside the box in the 20th minute but the referee did not point towards the spot. Replays showed that it was a clear penalty. Again another appeal of a handball inside the box was ignored by the referee. Robbie Fowler went on to say that VAR should be implemented in ISL to avoid these referring errors.

Maghoma feels that if they were awarded the penalty, it could’ve “changed the course of the game”.

“That’s a tough one because I think everyone, not just people at the stadium but viewers watching the game on TV, could clearly see that it was a penalty and if given, it could’ve changed the course of the game. We started so well, dominated possession, but couldn’t capitalize on the chances. A penalty at that stage would’ve been massive for us. You can give the referee the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they made a mistake, but hopefully, they will correct it before the next game,” he said.

SC East Bengal will now face Jamshedpur FC on Thursday and will be looking for their first goal of ISL along with their first win. Maghoma said his side has a lot of quality and they are on the “right track” but just need to capitalize on the chances.

“It’s not going to be an easy game as no game in this tournament is supposed to be easy. Look, we have a lot of quality in the side; we just need to take our chances. We need to convert chances and defend well. I think that if we rectify a few errors here and there we’ll be fine and start winning those points. As I said, we don’t want to reflect on the previous result but penalties can be crucial in tight games. They defended really well and we’ve to give them credit for that. We’re on the right track. We just need to get bag some positive results,” Maghoma said.

Wipro’s new CEO is doing a good job in increasing companies profits despite working from home

0

As everyone might have heard, Wipro Ltd. received its new chief executive officer five months ago in the form of 53-year-old Thierry Delaporte. But the pandemic has been getting in the way of the guy’s business. As it is reported, the new CEO of Wipro has been on a virtual tour from his home, visiting managers, workers, and customers worldwide.

Due to Covid-19, businesses worldwide have been struggling to meet their targets, and Wipro is no exception. But the new CEO has been trying his best to uplift the struggling business without letting the Covid-19 pandemic slow him. And things are looking good for the company since the appointment of the new guy.

According to sources, Wipro has rallied about 70% of its stock since his appointment. It’s a big achievement for Wipro, but the CEO believes it is just the beginning. He hopes to get Wipro back on track after years of tumult and stagnating financials.

“There’s a particular momentum in the industry just now, and I want to drive that urgency to put Wipro back where it belongs. I know I’m good at one thing – getting things done. We know what we need to do to make it work. In my Year One, we’ll accelerate growth; in Year Two, we’ll be at the growth level of our competitors; and in Year Three, we will outdo.”

Wipro’s shares are majoritively owned by billionaire Azim Premji and have been lagging in its performance. While the company has been performing significantly well, it is still nowhere near its competitors like Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, and HCL.

Delaporte has put together a new deals team, which is responsible for going after big client contracts. Reports indicate that Wipro has managed to claim orders from European clean energy producers Fortum Oyj and E.On SE. It has also stepped up its acquisitions by signing more deals in the past five months compared to the past five years. The CEO also claims that the acquisitions have only begun, and there are new deals on the way.

Special edition also featured rugby’s heroes of the pandemic

DUBLIN, Ireland, December 8, 2020/ — Richie McCaw and Jessy Trémoulière take home 15s Player of the Decade Awards; Portia Woodman and Jerry Tuwai win Sevens Player of the Decade categories; Jamie Heaslip and Portia Woodman tries voted as best of the decade; Two stellar 15s Teams of the Decade selected by the World Rugby Awards panel highlight the best performers on the international stage since 2010; Special edition also featured rugby’s heroes of the pandemic.

The World Rugby Awards Special Edition on Monday celebrated members of the rugby family who have provided outstanding service during the COVID-19 pandemic as well as players and teams who have starred over the last decade in a virtual show.

Instead of the traditional awards celebrating performances on the pitch in 2020, fans had the opportunity to vote for six Player and Try of the Decade Awards with the World Rugby Awards’ star-studded panel given the difficult task of selecting two Teams of the Decade.

Every World Rugby Men’s and Women’s 15s Player of the Year recipient since 2010 were shortlisted for the World Rugby Men’s and Women’s 15s Player of the Decade, from three-time recipients Dan Carter and Richie McCaw to Emily Scarratt and Jessy Trémoulière.

The same was true for the World Rugby Men’s and Women’s Sevens Player of the Decade Awards with nine men and six women shortlisted, from two-time winners Perry Baker and Michaela Blyde to 2019 winners Jerry Tuwai and Ruby Tui.

Past winners of the International Rugby Players (IRP) Try of the Year from 2010 onwards were shortlisted for the International Rugby Players 15s Men’s Try of the Decade, while the women’s shortlist was selected by IRP and put to the public vote.

A total of 394,795 votes were cast by the public across the six categories during the voting window in October with rugby fans eager to have their say on who should claim the prestigious accolades for last decade.

France full-back Jessy Trémoulière added another accolade to her Player of the Year award in 2018 by being voted the World Rugby Women’s 15s Player of the Decade in association with Tudor ahead of Carla Hohepa, Michaela Staniford, Magali Harvey, Kendra Cocksedge, Sarah Hunter, Portia Woodman and Emily Scarratt.

The first award presented on the night was the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Player of the Decade in association with HSBC, which was claimed by Black Ferns Sevens star Portia Woodman. The only player to be named World Rugby Player of the Year in both 15s and sevens, Woodman pipped team-mates Kayla McAlister, Michaela Blyde and Ruby Tui and Australia’s Olympic champions Emilee Cherry and Charlotte Caslick to the accolade.

Fiji’s own Olympic champion Jerry Tuwai was a popular winner of the World Rugby Men’s Sevens Player of Decade in association with HSBC award, seeing off competition from Mikaele Pesamino, Cecil Afrika, Tomasi Cama, Tim Mikkelson, Samisoni Viriviri, Werner Kok, Seabelo Senatla and Perry Baker.

Woodman claimed her second award of the night when her try against USA in the Rugby World Cup 2017 semi-final was named International Rugby Players Women’s 15s Try of the Decade ahead of efforts by Alison Miller, Magali Harvey, Megan York and Danielle Waterman.

Jamie Heaslip’s try for Ireland against Italy in the 2016 Six Nations was voted International Rugby Players Men’s 15s Try of the Decade by fans after seeing off the competition from scores by Chris Ashton, Radike Samo, Bryan Habana, Beauden Barrett, Francois Hougaard, Julian Savea, Joaquín Tuculet, Brodie Retallick and TJ Perenara.

The World Rugby Women’s 15s Team of the Decade in association with Mastercard was selected by the panel that traditionally determines the annual accolade and, after much debate, features eight players from England, six from New Zealand and one from France. Fourteen of the team have won at least one Rugby World Cup, the exception being number eight Safi N’Diaye who has two bronze medals to her name.

Four of these players were profiled during the show in Italy back-row Maxime Mbanda, South Africa’s RWC 2019 winning captain Siya Kolisi, Canada’s Pam Buisa and former Wales centre Jamie Roberts.

World Rugby Chairman Sir Bill Beaumont said: “First and foremost, I am deeply proud of how the global rugby family has reacted to what has been an exceptionally challenging year. The rugby heroes featured in the ceremony and all the others that provided outstanding service during the pandemic are an inspiration to us all. This special edition of the World Rugby Awards is certainly a tribute to their resilience and solidarity.

“I would like to congratulate all tonight’s recipients for their outstanding contribution to our game over the last decade, and for some of them, for many years to come. They are already part of rugby’s history and it is my great privilege to acknowledge their legacy with these awards.”
