Jurgen Klopp comments on Liverpool drawing Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League 2020-21 quarter-finals

0

The UEFA Champions League Round of 16 stage is over and many big names like Barcelona and Juventus have been eliminated in these rounds. So as we progress further, there will be many more surprises to come.

Quarter-final draw

  • Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund
  • FC Porto vs Chelsea FC
  • FC Bayern Munich vs Paris Saint-Germain
  • Real Madrid vs Liverpool

We are about to witness the last year’s final and the 2018 final as Bayern Munich will face PSG and Real Madrid will play against Liverpool in the quarter-finals.

Liverpool were no match for Real Madrid in the 2018 final due to their goalkeeping errors. So this time, Klopp will be hoping to take revenge and knock the all-time record Champions League winner out of the competition.

Jurgen Klopp said: “It’s just under three years ago that we faced them and it was a tough night for us, so to get the chance to play them again is cool.”

“I think it’s the first time I faced them when Cristiano is not there; probably maybe the first time since Bale is not there.”

“But obviously Ramos is still there, Varane still there, Kroos still there, Modric still there, Casemiro still there, Carvajal still there, Benzema still there.”

“And a few young prospects, proper players on top of that. I’m really looking forward to it.”

“It’s exciting, exciting. It’s obviously a tough draw, but I’m fine with it because if you look at all the other teams you think, ‘Oh my God!’ because they’re all strong and all have quality.”

After an all-English final in the 2018-19 Champions League, there is a possibility of a third all-English final this time as well. If Liverpool win the quarter-finals, they could meet Chelsea and eventually face Manchester City in the final.

Klopp further added: “I think we are all the same,” “Bayern doesn’t want to play Dortmund, for example, because they are from the same country and for us, it was City and Chelsea.”

“If we can avoid as long as possible then you do it, but all the rest, it was clear we would face a tough opponent.”

“I know it’s a different round and whatever and we don’t know where we will play and stuff like this, but that’s all OK. If it will be Budapest, that’s fine. The home game maybe hopefully at Anfield, that would be great as well.”

Facebook and its service, down on Friday has now been recovered

Facebook, the world’s biggest Social Media organization has managed to resolve a major outage that affected its services like Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and other Facebook services on Friday.

“Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have trouble accessing some Facebook services. We resolved this issue for everyone, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

During the outage, it was reported that more than 100,000 users reported issues with Instagram on DownDetector, more than 24,000 users reported issues with WhatsApp, and more than 5,000 users reported issues with Facebook Messenger.

According to sources, Instagram’s website during the outage stated the message “5xx Server Error.” Users reported that the issue didn’t solve itself even if the App was redownloaded to the phone and tried to log in but hit an error there during the outage.

But this is not the first time the service has went down, FaceBook services also suffered heavily during the 2019 Thanksgiving. It seems that the company needs to update its servers pretty soon.

Apple to pay $308.5 million in DRM patent infringement case

A federal jury in Marshall, Texas, has passed a judgement on Friday stating that Apple must pay $308.5 million to closely-held Personalized Media Communications (PMC) on the grounds of infringing a patent related to digital rights management (DRM).

PMC, a licensing firm, had sued Apple with claims that the latter infringed its patent with technology including FairPlay, which is used for the distribution of encrypted content from its App Store, iTunes, and Apple Music applications.

One expert for Sugar Land, Texas-based PMC had calculated Apple owed $240 million in royalties. After a five-day trial, the jurors in Texas, late on Friday, ordered Apple to pay a running royalty, which is generally based on the amount of sales of a product or service.

Apple refused to comment initially to Reuters but said to Bloomberg that it was disappointed with the ruling and would appeal.

“Cases like this, brought by companies that don’t make or sell any products, stifle innovation and ultimately harm consumers,” the company said in an emailed statement.

The lawsuit was originally filed in 2015, but the Cupertino tech giant challenged the validity of the patent at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. In March last year, a U.S. appeals court reversed the board’s decision that certain patent claims were invalid and revived the case for trial.

According to Bloomberg, “U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap last week also adopted a magistrate’s recommendation denying Apple’s request to find the patent invalid.”

Google and its YouTube service won another patent trial lodged by PMC in November over different patents and a case against Netflix is pending in New York.

The case is Personalized Media Communications LLC v. Apple Inc., 2:15-cv-1366, U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Texas (Marshall).

SoftBank rolls out 5G mmWave in Japan in Collaboration with Qualcomm

0

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has announced that the Japanese multinational conglomerate holding company, SoftBank Corp., has launched its 5G millimeter (mmWave) service in Japan – using devices based on Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 5G Mobile Platforms and Modem-RF Systems. The chipmaker noted that 5G mmWave will allow Japanese users to enjoy the fastest possible multi-Gigabit download speeds in the country.

SoftBank is making the “Pocket WiFi 5G A004ZT” 5G mmWave mobile hotspot available for sale along with the launch. All initial 5G mmWave-compatible mobile devices, including soon-to-be-announced 5G smartphones in SoftBank’s portfolio, are expected to be powered by Qualcomm Technologies’ 5G mmWave products.

To address the massive increase in mobile data demand, the deployment of 5G mmWave is critical. SoftBank can take advantage of a large number of spectrum resources available in higher bands and unleash the full potential of 5G through 5G mmWave.

In dense urban environments or fixed wireless access and enterprise environments, the increasing demand for data can be met in a cost-effective way for mobile operators through 5G mmWave– “with savings up to 35% in the total cost of ownership compared to the sole use of sub-6 GHz bands”.

“5G mmWave is critical for mobile operators to stay competitive and to realize the full potential of 5G to transform many industries,” said Francesco Grilli, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc, according to Qualcomm’s official website. “Japan is at the forefront in deploying the most advanced 5G technologies such as mmWave, and we are honored by working with SoftBank to bring the fastest mobile experiences to Japanese consumers and businesses.”

“SoftBank is pleased to collaborate with Qualcomm Technologies and use its leading 5G mmWave technology to offer world-class 5G service to our subscribers,” said Keigo Sugano, senior vice president, head of product division, SoftBank Corp. “We look forward to continuing our long-standing collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies to support Japan’s growth and leadership using the most advanced wireless innovations.”

This announcement follows the Japanese Company’s commercial launch, in March 2020, of the 5G Sub-6 GHz service with smartphones powered by Snapdragon 5G Mobile Platforms.

Analysing the favourites to win the Champions League 2020-21 title

0

With the last eight of the Champions League fully drawn, we are getting ever so close to the finals of this year’s edition. With that, let’s have a look at the chances of winning the Champions League for all the teams remaining.

FC Porto

The true underdogs heading into the quarter finals this season, Porto managed to edge past Juventus on away goals thanks to a splendid performance from 38-year-old captain Pepe. Underdogs have been uncovered in every season, with Ajax and Atalanta being the most notable names in recent seasons and it would be unwise to rule them out completely.

Borussia Dortmund

Erling Haaland's stats show his greatness even at 20

The black and yellow club have the most exciting young frontline with Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho and Giovanni Reyna alongside the experienced Marco Reus, Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard.  But given their unpredictability this season, and Manchester City’s sheer brilliance in recent times, it seems difficult for Edin Terzic’s team to progress to the semi finals ahead of Pep Guardiola’s.

Liverpool

P2020 09 12 Liverpool Leeds 109 e1599934740851 Analysing the favourites to win the Champions League 2020-21 title

The repeat of the Champions League 2018 final sees the Merseysiders face Real Madrid over two legs. Their recent form has been concerning to say the least, and Madrid have slowly been back on the rise with an impressive last display against Atalanta, as well as in the league. Their centre-backs are still out injured, and the frontline seems completely out of favour, with a win at Anfield in 2021 still beyond them.

Real Madrid

barcelona real madrid el clasico 241020zc Analysing the favourites to win the Champions League 2020-21 title

Qualifying for the last eight for the first time in three years, Real Madrid are back in the dying stages of the tournament. However, things aren’t quite the same for them since Cristiano Ronaldo left the club. Sergio Ramos’ return from injury will be a welcome boost, but given the kind of competition around, it seems difficult, but not impossible for Madrid to make it 14 European titles.

Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel omg you beaut Analysing the favourites to win the Champions League 2020-21 title

Here is where things start to get close. Chelsea have only conceded two goals under Thomas Tuchel, and have been unbeaten across all competitions since the German took over. The likes of Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Antonio Rudiger and Marcos Alonso have enjoyed a revitalised role in the squad, and have delivered when called upon. Having a relatively easier draw against Porto in the quarters, the last four against Madrid or Liverpool looks likely at the very least.

PSG

Kylian Mbappe1 Analysing the favourites to win the Champions League 2020-21 title

Kylian Mbappe’s performance against Barcelona in the Champions League was a passing of the torch moment for the Frenchman. Moreover, the fact that they have only conceded 19 goals in the league boosts their chances of finally winning the tournament after coming so close to the trophy last season, losing to Bayern, whom they face again in the quarter finals.

Bayern Munich

sane lucas hernandez bayern munich Analysing the favourites to win the Champions League 2020-21 title

Last season’s Champions are still up there in the list of favourites to win the title once again, but they will have to go through PSG in the quarters. Should they prevail, things look likely to end in the same fashion as last season, but the Parisians will be determined to not let things go easy. Bayern have been defensively shaky this season, and will have to put on their best to edge past PSG and then face either of Borussia Dortmund or Manchester City in the semis.

Manchester City

skysports john stones man city 5204776 Analysing the favourites to win the Champions League 2020-21 title

This season finally seems to be the one where Pep Guardiola brings the Champions League trophy to Manchester City. They have been just as good defensively as they have going forward, and while they do face the most difficult draw in Borussia Dortmund followed by either of Bayern or PSG, the fact that City have the best players in every single position is only testament as to why they deserve the title this time around.
