It kicks starts the theatrical release of Pan Nalin’s LAST FILM SHOW (Chhello Show) across Japan. Just in Tokyo alone, the film opens in 24 Cinemas today, director Pan Nalin and producer Dheer Momaya will meet and greet audiences in Tokyo throughout this weekend; starting with an exclusive show in presence of celebrated star Ken Koga at the Shinjuku Piccadilly, which is Shochiku’s flagship cinema.

Microsoft is going full heavy with its investment in OpenAI

Microsoft announced on Monday that it would increase its investment in OpenAI, betting its future on the startup and technology that gave birth to the ChatGPT chatbot phenomenon and paving the way for increased competition with Alphabet Inc.’s Google.

In a blog post, Microsoft said, ”Today, we are announcing the third phase of our long-term partnership with OpenAI through a multiyear, multibillion dollar investment to accelerate AI breakthroughs to ensure these benefits are broadly shared with the world.”

Microsoft, which recently declared an AI revolution, is expanding on an investment it made in OpenAI nearly four years ago. It invested $1 billion in the startup co-founded by Elon Musk and investor Sam Altman in 2019, and it has since built a supercomputer to power OpenAI’s technology, among other things.

“We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft. “In this next phase of our partnership, developers and organizations across industries will have access to the best AI infrastructure, models, and toolchain with Azure to build and run their applications.”

Microsoft is devoting even more resources to keeping the two businesses at the forefront by utilising so-called generative AI, a technology that can learn from vast data how to create virtually any type of content simply from a text prompt.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which generates prose or poetry on demand, was a standout example that drew a lot of attention in Silicon Valley last year.

As OpenAI continues its quest to create artificial intelligence comparable to human intelligence, Microsoft announced last week that it intends to incorporate such AI into all of its products. For the first time in years, Microsoft has already integrated OpenAI technology into Bing, the company’s search engine, which is being discussed as a potential Google competitor. The eagerly anticipated investment demonstrates how Google, the originator of significant AI research, is now planning its own unveiling for this spring.

The third BAL season will tip off on Saturday, March 11

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) unveiled a refurbished basketball court on Sunday Jan. 22 at the Noah Country Club in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The refurbishment is a collaboration between the BAL and the Noah’s Arc Foundation and part of their commitment to provide safe places where youth can learn and play the game of basketball.  As part of the inauguration ceremony, NBA Academy Africa Associate Technical Director Joe Touomou hosted a Youth clinic for 63 young boys and girls from Yaoundé and a Coaches Clinic for 65 local coaches.
 
“I encourage the young players to take advantage of this beautiful space and the opportunity to play the game with one another. The values they learn on the court – teamwork, leadership, and respect – will help them no matter what they choose to do in life”, said BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall.

Jamshedpur FC will participate in the Hero Super Cup tournament in April

Jamshedpur FC will be a part of the 2022-23 Hero Super Cup as one of the Hero Indian Super League sides participating in the tournament come April. 

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced that 16 teams will take part in the tournament and the same will take place between April 8-25, 2023. 

Kerala has been chosen as the venue for the event, with two of three cities, Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram set to host the tournament this year. 

Jamshedpur FC will participate in Hero Super Cup tournament in April

The Men of Steel will be among the 11 Hero ISL teams gaining automatic qualification along with the Champions of the 2022-23 Hero I-League, while other Hero I-League sides will compete for the four remaining group stage spots. 

The 16 teams will be divided into four groups of four teams each and will compete in a single round-robin format. The four winners in their respective groups will then qualify to play the semi-finals of the tournament. 

The group stage will be held from April 8-19, with the semi-finals on April 21st and 22nd. The final will be held on April 25th.

It is also pertinent to note that the winners of the Hero Super Cup will play 2021-22 Hero I-League Champions Gokulam Kerala FC for a spot in the 2023-24 AFC Cup group stage.

Report: Apple hits $1 billion export in India

According to the Economic Times, Apple has become the first smartphone manufacturer in India to achieve $1 billion in exports in a month. The achievement occurred in the month of December. Overall smartphone exports have also surpassed Rs 10,000 crore, according to the report. Moneycontrol was unable to independently confirm the report.

The record smartphone exports led by Apple in December are also an indication of how quickly the US tech giant is shifting its base to India and away from China as the country faces uncertainty.

In India, Apple produces the iPhone 11, 12, 13, and 14 models.

Its most recent model, the iPhone 14, was released a few months ago. Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron all have manufacturing plants in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. They are the recipients of the government’s smartphone PLI scheme.

According to the Economic Times, the government expects India to export mobile phones worth around $9 billion in FY23, up from $5.8 billion the previous year. The initial clearance granted by the government to approximately 14 of Apple’s Chinese suppliers will further strengthen Apple’s ecosystem in India. This is a significant victory for the US tech behemoth as it rapidly expands its presence in India.

According to a forecast in the South China Morning Post by Luke Lin, an analyst at Taiwan’s DigiTimes newspaper’s research unit, India could produce one in every two iPhones sold worldwide by 2027, up from less than 5% today. The forecast is more aggressive than JPMorgan’s previous prediction that India would manufacture 25% of total Apple iPhones globally by 2025.
