Blast Movie 2026 Review: Arjun Sarja’s Action Thriller Is a Fun Family Ride Worth Watching

Blast movie 2026 starring Arjun Sarja, Preity Mukundhan, and Abhirami was released on May 28. Here’s the full review, audience reactions, cast details, and verdict.

Imagine Drishyam — the tension, the family under siege, the protect-at-all-costs instinct — now add the LCU universe’s martial arts DNA, and the result is Blast. Tamil cinema’s newest action entertainer landed in theatres on May 28, 2026, and Action King Arjun is very much still in the building.

Blast Movie 2026: At a Glance

What Is Blast About?

Directed by Subash K. Raj, Blast is an action-oriented drama centred on a middle-class family with martial arts skills whose lives take a dangerous turn after they encounter a violent gang. The story follows the family as they navigate a conflict that pushes them into a high-stakes struggle involving survival and resistance.

One can say the same thing about Drishyam — and in a way, Blast is what if Drishyam were part of LCU. It is that kind of imagination where the makers are using the familiar “protecting your family” idea in an action-heavy movie.

What Works — and What Doesn’t

The film’s biggest strength is its lead. Arjun as Rajaraman is easily the best and perfect choice to play this part — he still looks believable as the action king, and the character perfectly fits his age. The swagger is definitely there.

Preity Mukundhan more than holds her own. As Nila, she was terrific with her flexibility in all those action sequences — even in carrying the style, she did an impressive job. Abhirami as Neelaveni is more of a typical mother for the larger part.

Ravi Basrur’s score deserves a special mention. In some areas, his music is somewhat different from his usual style — and it was refreshing to see a Ravi Basrur theme being played for a colourful visual rather than the usual coal mine colour palette.

However, the film is not without its stumbles. In the beginning portions, the messaging is a bit too loud, and there is a lot of fan service for Arjun. Towards the end, an overtly sentimental switch where a character gives a lecture about protecting the people of a certain village causes a tone shift, with a jarring song that somewhat breaks the rhythm.

Audience Verdict: Worth Watching?

Social media reactions have been largely positive. One X user wrote: “Blast — engaging action entertainer. Good first half and decent second half. Casting and BGM are good. Well written by a debutant director. Stunt choreography is the major highlight of the film. Though predictable in its flow, the film is worth watching in theatres.”

The consensus? Go in without expecting a reinvention of the genre, and you will leave satisfied.
