What Is Dutton Ranch About?

Dutton Ranch is a direct sequel to Yellowstone, following Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) after a wildfire destroys their home and ranch in Dillon, Montana. With Carter in tow, the couple relocates to a small town in South Texas to start over — only to find that Rio Paloma is every bit as dangerous, politically charged, and ruthless as the world they left behind.

The main antagonist emerging from the premiere is Beulah Jackson and her sprawling 10 Petal mega ranch, a powerful local family that appears to control the town in ways the Duttons are only beginning to understand.

The series is based on Taylor Sheridan’s characters and holds an 86% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes after its two-episode premiere — a strong start for the franchise following the underwhelming reception of Marshals earlier in 2026.

What to Expect in Episode 3

The official logline for “Act of God Business” reads: “As Beth works to secure their business, Rip faces a threat; tensions increase throughout Rio Paloma, and circumstances require everyone to make choices.”

After the premiere established the Duttons’ uneasy arrival in Texas and introduced the Jackson family as a formidable rival power, Episode 3 is expected to escalate on two fronts simultaneously — Beth playing hardball in the business arena while Rip faces a more immediate physical threat. With the Jackson family tightening their grip on Rio Paloma, alliances and loyalties in the town are about to be tested.
