Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid? Barcelona’s Dream Signing Is Slipping Away — and It’s a Bitter Pill

For the longest time, it appeared like Bernardo Silva would finally secure his dream move to FC Barcelona this summer. The Portuguese international had been linked with the Blaugrana for years, but a transfer never materialised due to several factors. With him becoming a free agent this summer, the stars seemed aligned for a move to Spotify Camp Nou at last, with an agreement over a two-year deal said to have been finalised. barcauniversal

But things have changed — dramatically.

Bernardo Silva Transfer Situation Overview

Real Madrid Storm In

According to reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid are now in advanced talks to sign the Portuguese international on a free transfer. Real Madrid have already sent a formal contract offer to Silva, who is now being seen as a priority target at the Santiago Bernabeu by incoming manager Jose Mourinho.

This is a seismic development. A player who publicly expressed his desire to join Barcelona for years is now on the verge of signing for their fiercest rivals. It doesn’t get more dramatic than that in La Liga football.

Why Did Barcelona Lose Out?

Silva is understood to have increased his salary demands after both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid made a strong push for his transfer. Barcelona, however, refused to increase their offer and stood firm on their initial proposal, stating that they do not wish to go overboard for a player who will be a substitute in Hansi Flick’s plans. barcauniversal

That last point stings — Barcelona essentially told Silva he wouldn’t be a starter. Real Madrid, under the ambitious Mourinho, are clearly offering him a bigger role and a bigger paycheque.

This has seemingly paved the way for the former Manchester City captain to lean towards a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. barcauniversal
