Bengaluru FC 1-3 Mumbai City FC: 3 talking points as champions-elect win again

Mumbai City FC took one step closer to the title, defeating Bengaluru FC 3-1 in their big fixture. Here are the three talking points from the game.

Title Credentials For Mumbai City FC

After four games played, Mumbai City FC are at the top of the table with nine points to their name. The other clubs still have to catch up in terms of games played. But in terms of performances on the pitch, Mumbai are probably the best on all fronts.

It’s very difficult to point out a weakness in the team, and this could lead them on to a strong finish at the top.

Costly Errors For BFC

Bengaluru FC committed a number of mistakes as they dropped three points against the champions-elect. The first was the handball from Alan Costa that gifted Bengaluru the penalty. Igor Angulo converted the penalty and is now the leader in the race for the Golden Boot, with four goals from just as many games.

The next was Sunil Chhetri’s penalty miss, where he was denied by Mohammad Nawaz. The Indian skipper remains second in the all-time ISL goalscorers list for the time being. These mistakes led to them being unable to catch up to a clinical Mumbai City FC, who took their chances when they came.

Rock-Solid Defense

The foundation of any title winning side is a great defense. And Mourtada Fall is displaying not only his defensive, but also attacking capabilities with every passing game. He has now scored 15 goals in the ISL, all with his head.

Aside from the outstanding free kick goal scored by Cleiton Silva in the game, Mumbai denied Bengaluru a lot of clear cut chances. Saves from Mohammad Nawaz also proved to be a thorn in the side of the BFC outfield players.

They are now seventh in the table, and are not having the season that they hoped it would be. BFC take on their next challenge in the form of Hyderabad FC, while Mumbai City FC have a big clash against in-form Jamshedpur FC.
