Fans of Beef have been wondering what Lee Sung Jin would do next. The answer: build his own studio. Under a renewed multi-year Netflix deal, he has launched LILA Pictures and already has two new series in development, one of them starring Ali Wong.

What Is LILA Pictures?
The name comes from a Sanskrit word meaning “divine play,” and the company will develop original film and TV projects. Lee will create, write, direct and executive produce, while also backing emerging creative voices. Hyunji Ward, who previously worked at UTA and at Dakota Johnson’s TeaTime Pictures, joins to lead film and television. Lee’s new deal also means he’ll keep making scripted series and films exclusively for Netflix.

The Only Child: Ali Wong Returns
This limited drama reunites Lee with Ali Wong, who will produce and star as the mother of a professional archer chasing her first gold medal. Playwright and screenwriter Ava Wong Davies (Industry) is attached. It’s Wong’s first TV project since her Emmy-winning performance in Beef Season 1 opposite Steven Yeun.
Citizen’s Arrest: A Neighborhood Obsession
Created by Gene Hong, a writer on Beef, this drama follows two longtime friends and neighbors who become consumed with solving a local crime. It quickly becomes a way to avoid the personal crises they’re both dodging. Expect dark humor and emotional messiness in the Beef tradition.
What About Beef Season 3?
Nothing was said about a third season. Season 2 earned 16 Emmy nominations, the most of any limited or anthology series in 2026, but viewership dipped sharply from Season 1, opening at 2.4 million views against 5.8 million. Even so, Netflix has made clear it wants Lee around for years, and LILA Pictures confirms it.
What Else Is Lee Working On?
Lee is also co-writing Marvel’s X-Men with Joanna Calo, reuniting with director Jake Schreier, and he executive produces Lurker. Few creators have momentum like this right now.
Both new series are early in development, so casting and dates are still to come. Keep checking our Netflix series updates and OTT news on Techno Sports as these projects take shape.
