Not every follow-up to a blockbuster lands the same way. After Gadar 2 revived Sunny Deol’s career in a big way, expectations were high for Batwara 1947 — but six days in, the numbers tell a very different story.

Batwara 1947: Day-Wise Collections So Far

Day	Box Office
Day 1	Rs. 5.00 crore
Day 2	Rs. 12.25 crore
Day 3	Rs. 6.50 crore
Day 4	Rs. 1.40 crore
Day 5	Rs. 1.75 crore
Day 6	Rs. 1.10 crore
Total	Rs. 28 crore

Wednesday’s Rs. 1.10 crore reflects a steep 37% drop from the previous day, and the film is on track to close its opening week around Rs. 29 crore — a disastrous number for a big-budget Sunny Deol release.

Why Batwara 1947 Isn’t Connecting

Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the partition-era drama was set in motion after Gadar 2’s mega success brought Sunny Deol back into the spotlight after nearly two decades on the sidelines. But the story here takes a very different angle — it centers on a Pakistani Sunny Deol saving a Hindu woman and her religion, a far cry from the Tara Singh-style, India-first heroics that made Gadar 2 a mass phenomenon.

That shift in framing appears to be the core issue: the film has the partition backdrop and mass elements audiences expect, but without the same patriotic charge that made the earlier franchise connect so strongly with its core base.

Where This Leaves The Film

Based on current trends, Batwara 1947 is projected to finish its total theatrical run somewhere around Rs. 40-45 crore nett — a disappointing outcome relative to its scale and star power.
