Barcelona want to keep Ousmane Dembele; contract talks to begin soon

FC Barcelona have to pay an extra €5m to Dortmund as part of Dembele deal

Ousmane Dembele had been linked to Manchester United extensively, and things escalated quickly on deadline day during the summer transfer window of 2020. However, United were unable to fund a permanent transfer for the player who ended up staying at Barcelona.

The newly re-elected Barcelona president, Joan Laporta is set to talk to the French winger right after the situation surrounding Lionel Messi is sorted out. This, of course, will require a draw-up of the long term project in place at Barcelona. For the time being, though, Dembele still has time on his contract and there are still a few months till the end of the season.

The player himself wanted to renew his contract, and the situation now is complicated. The club is expected to adopt a rather extremist attitude towards the player’s future at the club in the sense that they will either extend his contract or sell him while a move for the player will still get them money. But all that said, they do ideally want to keep him.

Should they be unable to agree on a new deal with the player, Juventus, Manchester United and Liverpool are rumoured to be willing to try and sign him.
