Automatic Nighttime Shutdowns Raising Concerns Among iPhone Users

There is a peculiar problem circulating that appears to be causing iPhones to power down for a few hours during the night. iPhone users have expressed concerns about their alarms failing to activate, which may be linked to these unexpected nightly shutdowns. Some users have had to input their smartphones passcodes in the morning, which typically only occurs if the device has shut down or restarted.

Automatic Nighttime Shutdowns of iPhones

This emerging issue was brought to light on Reddit, and responses to the thread suggest that it’s not an isolated incident. As reported by MacRumors, one user recounted how two of their alarms failed to go off in the morning, an occurrence they had never experienced before. Remarkably, the same thing happened not only to the original poster (OP) but also to their son, which appeared to be an unusual coincidence.

Other users shared similar experiences, detailing instances where their alarms also failed to sound as scheduled. According to one response, numerous devices turned off on the same night, which may explain the alarms not going off on time. In one instance, the iPhone in question turned back on just a minute before the alarm was set to ring.

The Redditor also explained that you can confirm this issue by inspecting your battery settings to see if there is a gap during the night. You can monitor your battery level throughout the night, and if there is a gap, it suggests your iPhone must have been turned off during that period.

This problem reportedly affects iPhone 15 models and could be related to iOS 17, according to MacRumors. However, whether this is genuinely an iOS 17-related issue has not been officially confirmed. iPhones automatically shutting down and restarting during the night can be problematic, particularly when alarms fail to go off. Apple has not yet officially acknowledged this issue, and if it persists, a solution should be forthcoming.
