What Is Breakers About?

Two American backpackers stumble upon what looks like paradise — a remote, tight-knit surf commune on the wild Western Australian coast. They’re welcomed in. They settle. And then, slowly, the cracks begin to show.

Netflix describes it as a “psychological drama” exploring themes of power, loyalty, and belonging within a closed community. Antony Starr plays the “charismatic but mysterious” figure at the head of the commune — a role that practically writes itself for the man who spent years as television’s most magnetic monster.

What makes the premise especially compelling is the location. Breakers is the first Netflix series ever filmed in Western Australia, shot across Margaret River, Busselton, and Perth — landscapes that will make the descent into darkness feel all the more visually stunning against the backdrop.

The Creative Pedigree Is Exceptional

This isn’t just any Australian production. Breakers comes from Clerkenwell Films — the British studio responsible for two of Netflix’s most acclaimed originals: the Emmy-winning Baby Reindeer and cult hit The End of the F*ing World. That lineage alone signals this is being built for prestige, not filler.

The series is written by Pete Jackson, directed by Mary Nighy (Industry) and Ng Choon Ping, and backed by the WA Government through Screenwest’s Production Attraction Incentive. Antony Starr also serves as Executive Producer — a strong sign of his investment in making this more than just another streaming thriller.

Filming wraps June 2026, putting the release firmly in the November/December 2026 window. Keep watching TechnoSports for the trailer drop and premiere date the moment they’re confirmed.
